All Enemies Foreign and Domestic

Edward G. Palmer Korean War
My Dad Edward Gordon Palmer Korean War

I had hoped to write a happy post. Something positive and uplifting for this Veteran’s Day but unfortunately with the results of yesterday’s presidential election there is not much good that can be said.

Those of you who served in the United States Army remember this Oath of Enlistment.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

Forty years ago I raised my right hand and recited this Oath.

What happens when that enemy is not only domestic but has now become the Commander in Chief aka President of the United States of America.  A man who is a well known sociopath and narcissist.  A man whose evil rhetoric and divisive tactics split the nation into two camps. A man who if we allow him will bring if not World War Three but a Civil War where we will be maimed, lose property, jobs, life and limb.

I have to admit being that I work for a museum which mainly attracts the 1%, the wealthy, rich upper-crust of society who don’t give a damn about the working class, immigrants, Black Americans or any peoples of Color I went through my workday numb with interspersion of break times where colleagues sat in equally numb silence or made half-halfhearted attempts to console each other.  A Filipina co-worker and I just hugged.

I especially look to my Jewish co-worker who is the voice of reason in all situations. We highly value and respect his opinion. He did give me some hope as did one of my Caribbean co-workers that maybe the Trump Nightmare this man eating bone crunching terminator machine will not completely destroy America as we know it.

As I watch the tourists, visitors and people who live in the white-bread world surrounding neighborhood  laugh, joke, play with their kids, be happy I realize that they could be happy because Trump becoming president will not touch their world and in fact will probably make life better for them.

Most of the low echelon workers security and custodial are populated by immigrants, Muslims, people of Color, Hindus, you know the folks that Middle America, Republican Conservative America loves to hate, blame and make us scapegoats for all that is wrong with this country.  We are the ones who secure, clean and console but are taken for granted.

We gather together hanging onto any words of hope or solace in this one of the saddest most depressing events in recent U.S. history. Huddling closer and closer attempting to create some type of safety net. But inside is that little voice of fear. We may not show it because we can’t after all we are not supposed to have any feelings or emotions only be subservient to the ruling majority. You know that Remains of the Day stiff upper lip type of thing.

For me the most heart wrenching thing as a U.S. Army Veteran is that the deed is done and there is little or nothing I can do to turn things around.

I fear another Middle Passage. The return of Slavery and Jim Crow. Or perhaps it never really left and was only waiting in the wings for the right actor to make an appearance on stage for it’s horrible reanimation. I Fear: Another Trail of Tears. Another Nazi Germany. Internment camps like the ones where Japanese-Americans were forced into during WWII. More police shootings or innocent Black people.

It also troubles me that many who voted for Trump live in the so-called Bible Belt. Well what Bible are you reading. You do know that Jesus was a Jew who live in a multi-cultural polytheistic society and no where in the Gospels where he is attacking his Greek, Roman or Egyptian neighbors or devaluing their belief systems. In fact Jesus saved most of his most scathing remarks for his fellow Jews/Hebrews specifically the Pharisees and Sadducees.  Here is where Jesus got angry with hypocrites.

Matthew 21:12-13

New International Version (NIV)

Jesus at the Temple

12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them,“‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.

Those who voted for Trump who is more of an Anti-Christ than a Christian have filled Presidency with a Thief!!

I am stunned, appalled and scared to death of this upcoming Trump Presidency. The KKK is going to be in the White House as of January 2017. I’m old enough to remember the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.  Folks this is real and is no joke.

The Healthcare law will be repealed, Civil Rights laws be dismantled.  Every Black, brown, Jewish, Asian, Muslim, Native Americans, Hindu, Buddhist, all immigrants should be afraid. After all a year from now none of us may be here. My brother Stephen has Autism. There goes all the goods, services and programs for Disabled Americans.

We are going backwards to the 18th and 19th slavery Jim Crow days. My ancestors are weeping. I’m terrified!!

President Trump will keep his promise to Make America White again.

But after all the “Others” are gone what will America do then???  This man has sold you a bill of goods. He gave you poisoned Kool-Aid and you drank.  Remember every decision, every choice has consequences. I hope that you can live with yours.

Irksome Health Care Costs

Irksome Health Care Concerns and Costs

Good visit to the gastro doctor today. Basically he wants me on I guess what is now called a Paleo diet. The very thing that most people think is good for you like veggies and fruits causes me extreme gastic distress. Guess I will never become a vegetarian. Also I must stay away from wheat and wheat based products.  And worst of All No Chocolate!! Arrgghh!!

My doctor wants me to do both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy Thursday, November 17th. I told him that it would be impossible for me to take time off.  The doctor even wrote a note which I will give to H.R. and Dispatch/Mgrs tomorrow insisting that I must have these two procedures so let’s see what happens. Getting days off especially for medical procedures is like being in a fight where your opponent has a gun and you only have a small twig with which to defend yourself. Plus I’m still trying to balance attempting to take care of my medical condition with spending time with Stephen. Gosh it seems I’ll never win. Sigh……

Oh yes my ghetto hoodrat Walgreens on Nostrand and Fulton does not have the special solution I need to drink for the test next week. Go figure!!

Sometimes when I think about all the money I spend on doctors, exams, tests, procedures, various types of shots and injections plus any other kind of medical issues I’m beginning to think that I’m making all my doctors richer than they are now!!

That’s the one thing I dislike about getting older. The older I get the more health issues I have. When I was in my teens, 20s, 30s and early 40s everything was fine. Once I turned 50 it was like a time bomb in my body was set off the disease switch turned on and everything that could go wrong went wrong. Physical chaos. And just think I never smoked, rarely drank and exercised on a regular basis!! Getting older is not for sissies! Ugh!!

It took the Lady gastro nurse two needles sticks and she was still unable to draw blood. Then the man nurse came and he got blood on the 3rd try. They must have taken at least 5 or 6 vials of my blood. Tired. Exhausted. I feel like a Vampire has drained my entire Life essence!

Got up with $80 and now down to Zero bucks. I just got a phone message from the Brooklyn Veterans Hospital for my 1:30 pm doctors appointment which obviously I will not be able to make today. Ran out of funds and none of the subways near me go straight there. I will have to move my VA appt to another day when I have both time and money.

Health care is expensive and time consuming. Yuck!!

Friday I go for my Vitamin Infusion injections which are for me an out of pocket expense Not covered by Health Insurance. Sadly in this country the good old US of A. Preventative Medicine and/or many Holistic technologies are not covered by insurance. Hmmmm…. Guess Big Pharma would have a fit if more Americans actually went to the Gym, Discounts to and for Health Food Stores, Health Spas, herbal, Natural or Holistic!!   I smell a Conspiracy!!

IRKSOME TO THE Nth DEGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Broke-Ass Broad

Ms. DeBorah goes to the Financial Services Doctor. Finance Doctor asks for DeBorah’s wallet and bank statements. After some moments of silence while examining the wallets contents and the numbers on her bank statements Dr. Finance thoughtfully and deliberately announces her diagnosis.

Ms. DeBorah I’m very sorry to tell you this but due to your repeated doctor visits and prescriptions You Now have an Advanced Case of Broke-Itis. Your only hope is either more overtime, complete & total healing or instant Retirement.

This is a photo of me at age 42 right before graduating Cum Laude from Marymount Manhattan College. I would say at age 42 I reached my Peak Performance in terms of fitness. Perfect skin, shape, Hair (my Locs went down my back to my butt) stamina and endurance. I was in Excellent Great Shape. Wish I could return to that age and that physical condition.

Love Can Build a Bridge

I’m participating in a discussion on race relations with two other women bloggers one Black one white.  These are my thoughts thus far. I’m starting in Media Res.

For my American Followers and Subscribers I want you to really think and consider those of us who are not white and who have helped build this country over the last 400 years then go to the polls and VOTE!!

If only more people were open minded and accepting. I’m fortunate to work in a multi-cultural environment and live in a diverse city, New York. Over the years I’ve had to let go of my old hard line dogmatic religious beliefs as I’ve met and gotten to know people of other races. Now I have friends who are Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim as well as Jewish and Christian friends. I know if I had been born in those countries my belief system would have been different.

Who am I to say who is better or best when I worship a Jewish Carpenter.

I agree when you say that some whites don’t want to understand. I work for a museum in an upper class rich and wealthy neighborhood and the days following the two Black men who were slain this past summer as I stood in the galleries I could not understand how these white people families women with children could smile, laugh and joke while so many Black families were and still are in mourning. Then it dawned on me. Black people dying is in a separate world. Not of their circle. For them Blacks only exist as servants, maids, Nannies, Home Health care workers, MTA (Transit) workers,  Janitors or security guards like myself. We clean floors, bathrooms, drive the buses and subways, mind their kids but outside of that sphere we don’t exist as human beings.  More and more as time goes on I get the distinct impression that white America wants to return to the days of slavery or at least Jim Crow. Something my mother, grandparents and great grandparents went through. There hope was that life would be better for my brother and me.

At least not to most white Americans. We are stereotypes and caricatures not real people. The particular neighborhood where I work is located in what is called the “Gold Coast” of Manhattan. Doorman apartments and upper class private schools. These people make a show of voting for Obama and Hillary Clinton however the comments I and my co-workers of color must endure reveal their underlying beliefs as concerns race. I wear a uniform that represents my museum yet white people consistently think I’m either a drug dealer or sex worker??!! How?? What?? Why?? It never occurs to them in a million years that I am a college graduate and an U.S. Army Veteran and so are many of my co-workers who are not only brilliant but multi-lingual who have taken a job well below our intellect and skills due to the economy, ageism and the road blocks of racism to better employment opportunities. We do these jobs to feed our families, pay our bills, educate our children, take care of our parents, buy homes, etc….  Keep in mind that immigrants of All Colors built this country. Fought and died for this country!!

If only I could be seen as a unique human being created by God but I know I will never see that in my lifetime. I never married nor had children but I hope and pray future generations get past and/or never experience some of the racism, discrimination or bigotry that is my every day life.

As one who is descended from African, European and Native American roots I leave you with this song.

I cry when I hear this song and I cry for my country. My country that does not want me. My country whose white citizens constantly tell me “Why don’t you go back to Africa?”  How can I return to a place I’ve never been?? Why don’t the contributions of my ancestors count? Also part of me is Native American so actually This is My Country!! Yes white America this is my country whether you like it or not and I’m not leaving.  Think on this song then make your decision Tuesday, November 8th Election Day
