Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

Always Hot!! My Ancestors were from Africa and I suffer during the cold, freezing icy New York winters.

Some of my neighbors do not believe in either shoveling the snow or salting the ice. Falling is a real issue. Many of my co-workers have fallen and broken bones resulting in them missing several weeks from the job.

Skin was actually peeling off my arms and legs last winter. It was extremely painful. Until I discovered the benefits of Coconut Oil for my hair, scalp and skin my hair actually broke off and fell out of my head!!  Therefore I need heat full-time. My skin is now back to normal and my hair grows faster in hot weather.

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

Personally I think I look better with long hair. The photo you see as my Avatar is my College Graduation photo. At that time my hair was in locs that were waist length. I could actually sit on my hair. Added bonus: Guys like long hair. Got lots of compliments from men.

However Long hair requires more grooming and care so in recent years I’ve kept my Afro either cut short or allowed it to grow only to Medium length.  I would still like it to grow longer. Perhaps shoulder length just so I could get a variety of styles.  Wearing my hair natural I still get compliments from the Brothers. Most Black Men prefer Women to wear their hair natural.

Since I’m on vacation this week I’m wearing more of a Free Form Afro. Kind of a Wash ‘N’ Go. The less one manipulates Afro hair the faster it will grow. Also as I stated in a previous Blog Post I take lots of Vitamins and keep my hair moisturized at all times.

What is your favorite month of the year?  That’s a toss up between February which is my Birth Month and June which is the start of my Favorite Season Summer!!

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

Doing. I am a

Kinesthetic Learner

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinesthetic_learning

I can read about something or have someone explain the process to me but unless I perform the task hands on it won’t stick. As for the Classroom which seems eons ago I would say I did well in every subject except Math. I have a math block. No amount of doing or explaining ever helped me. College was a different story. I excelled in College. I made the Deans List in 1999 and Graduated with a 3.6 GPA in May 2002.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m on vacation and my brother Stephen is with me. Stephen’s Birthday is May 3rd and he will turn 56.

Today we went to see the movie Fate of the Furious. Good movie with lots of action, car chases, stuff blowing up and fights. Stephen Loved it. This is the first film in the Fast and Furious chain without Paul Walker who sadly passed away. There is a new Member of the F & F crew, a Black British Woman. We both enjoyed this film. Tomorrow will probably be a Dinosaur Day. We will visit the American Museum of Natural History and say Greet our Dino Buddies.

I return to work next week then I go back on vacation again!!  That’s the great thing about gaining Union Seniority.  As the years pass I earn/accrue more vacation time plus I carried over vacation days from last year. There are benefits to being a Union Member! DC 37 Union Proud!!

Manic Panic Rock ‘ N ‘ Roll Red

As many of my loyal readers already know I am a big fan of Manic Panic by Tish and Snooky.

For the past few months I’ve been rocking Manic Panic Vampire Red. This past week I received an email from Manic Panic telling me of a new shade of Red named Manic Panic Rock ‘ N ‘ Roll Red selling for only  $10 dollars. Naturally I ordered one jar and it came in the mail a few days ago.

I have applied this new shade of Red combined with the leftovers from the previous one.

Simply Red. Fiery Red Empress! High Voltage Duchess!  Shazam!

Do you notice any difference in my hair shade or color from Feb/March photo posts? Looking at these pics I do notice my hair has grown since I cut my hair in February. Now I’m just gonna let my Afro extend to the sky even though this will involve getting up close and personal relationship with my blow dryer since my hair tends to snag and tangle. As my hair continues to grow I might invest in the hand held steamer described in the below NappyFu Video.

Try to ignore the dark under eye circles. It has been a rough week at work. Not much sleep. I did put some Vitamin E Oil on my face which will hopefully get rid of the eye circles.

Any posts you might have missed can be found on my Photography Blog Roaming Urban Gypsy:  https://roamingurbangypsy.com/  (Shameless Plug)

Anyway Please let me know what you think about my New Red Hair Color!!

Judges 4-5 New International Version (NIV)

Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading[a] Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’”

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”

“Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 There Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.”

Matthew 11:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Kinetictra

Well I’m a Wacky, Crazy, Hyper Kinetic ball of High strung Nervous energy which I blame either on menopause or being born and raised in New York City. The Big Apple. The City that Never Sleeps and sometimes neither do I.

Could I be Type Epsilon.  Maybe my personality traits, quirks and characteristics could be best described or explained within the Greek Alphabet.

Αα Alpha Νν Nu
Ββ Beta Ξξ Xi

Perhaps I’m a Twisted Sister of the Insane Sorority!

I think I’m a combination of A & B personality aspects because I look calm on the outside but am usually seething on the inside. Thank God for my writing also because that helps keep me sane. It’s the Unicorn in me.  I am many voices, many faces, a conduit for spirits past, present and future.  Forever eternally fueled by internal energy sources emanating from a bottomless well and my border-less garden.

Definitions’ may describe some of my more unusual characteristics but labels cannot define or contain me.

Is my life A Ball of Confusion as envisioned by the Temptations?   http://youtu.be/MMis_FBgotQ

I think not!

As for people opinions and expectations I say “Let me be Zany, Zaftig, Madcap, crazy, cool enough to always keep them guessing!!”

“Kinetic energy is an expression of the fact that a moving object can do work on anything it hits; it quantifies the amount of work the object could do as a result of its motion. The total mechanical energy of an object is the sum of its kinetic energy and potential energy. The total energy of an isolated system is subject to the conservation of energy principle.

Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. An object that has motion – whether it is vertical or horizontal motion – has kinetic energy. There are many forms of kinetic energy – vibrational (the energy due to vibrational motion), rotational (the energy due to rotational motion), and translational (the energy due to motion from one location to another). To keep matters simple, we will focus upon translational kinetic energy. The amount of translational kinetic energy (from here on, the phrase kinetic energy will refer to translational kinetic energy) that an object has depends upon two variables: the mass (m) of the object and the speed (v) of the object. The following equation is used to represent the kinetic energy (KE) of an object.”

Black in America ~ Kujichagulia — SelfDetermination

Obsidian Ebony Sioux Blackfoot Visions

Stephen and I in December 1961.
Stephen and I in December 1961.

My family ranges from pale white with blue eyes to Darkest Black. However I really had no idea of my Rainbow family until Aunts passed away and then when my father died in 1995.  Then I was confronted with somebody who had white skin and blue eyes saying that they were my cousins.  I always knew my Paternal Grandfather had been married twice but it was then that I realized his first wife must have been white.  That was probably the real reason he left Petersburg, VA and moved to New York during the early 1900s…
As a child during the 1960s, I remember being called Tar Baby.  I remember my mother who was light-skinned but who suffered under Jim Crow in Dayton, Ohio saying, “If You’re white you’re alright. If your Brown stick around. If you’re Black Get Back!”  Every day on the playground of a Black school Black kids would taunt me. Tar Baby! African! Monkey!  I came home crying every day.  My Dad who was Dark-Skinned always told me, “The Blacker the Berry the Sweeter the Juice. If the berry’s too light it has no use.”  That would give me comfort.

However it took decades before I was comfortable in my Black skin.   But the pigeon holing by the Black Community, My Community was very evident in the 60s and 70s when I was coming of age.  I don’t have what many Black people define as African features. Whatever that means.  From a child even until now Black people, white people and other Peoples of Color will ask me if I’m part Native American. The answer to that question is Yes but if they looked closely at the African continent they’d find Black people with all manner of varied facial features. But nobody does. They just assume.

High School Graduation 1977

My Speech. My Dad taught me to speak what he called “The King’s English.”  Slang was not allowed in our home.  As a result Black people say I sound like I’m white or that I speak proper.  Excuse me but aren’t we all supposed to speak English instead of Ebonics?!  White people say I’m very articulate (unsaid ~ “for a Black person)  It’s a No Win situation.

First Dance with My Father
First Dance with My Father

The kinky nappy hair did not help. I was called Brillo pad. There was the evil straightening comb with Dixie Peach and Ultra Sheen (hair grease). My Mom telling me to bend my head so she could get to my “Kitchen.”  My hair was so thick, teeth broke out of combs my mother attempted on my Kinapps.  Then came 1972 when my Dad decided that I was going to get an Afro. Watu Wasuri Use Afro Sheen.  Then I was Beautiful.  Angela Davis Black Panther Party Soul Train Beautiful.  In the 80s I surrendered to Jheri Curl Juice.  Since then I’ve been pig-tailed, relaxed, braided, loc’ed and now with my not so thick Menopausal hair I’ve returned home to my Afro. Not as Fierce. Somewhat wiry and thanks to L’Oreal always colored various shades of red.

The new stigma for me now, Ageism. Being a Black Woman over 50 who thanks to that once hated Dark Skin now is grateful because Black Don’t Crack!
