Do you prefer juice or fruit?
A difficult choice. Juice is more convenient because you can carry a bottle of juice with you and it is not messy to eat whereas with fresh fruit you’re peeling the fruit and creating a mess. On the other hand obviously fresh fruit is better because sugar is added to most juices unless you do home juicing of fresh fruit but that too is time consuming. So I’d say juice on the job ~~ fresh fruit at home.
Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
Big Town. The Big Apple. Yes I Love it. When I was younger and my Maternal Grandmother and Aunts were alive I used to visit them in Dayton, Ohio. Talk about boring. No I could never live in a rural or suburban community where there is nothing to do and you must drive everywhere. Despite my complaints about the New York City MTA for Non-Drivers like me our Transit system makes New York an excellent place to live.
If you were to paint a picture of your childhood, what colors would you use?
All the Colors of the Rainbow because for me childhood was pretty much carefree. Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange… anything bright. It is only when I got to adulthood that things became murky grays and muddiness.
Ways to Relax List: Make a list of what relaxes you and helps you feel calm.
SLEEP!!!!!
Writing.
Photography in good weather.
Listening to music.
Watching videos/films/movies on Netflix and YouTube.
Going to any of New York City’s Botanic Gardens when the weather is good.
Hanging out in Central Park.
Spending time exploring the streets, places and faces of Harlem my Dad’s birthplace and where he grew up. Also one of the greatest and best Black History spots!!
Attending Cultural Events in New York.
Going to the beach even though I have not done this in years. With my work schedule virtually no time.
Visiting Museums other than the one that I work for!
Reading even though I’ve had to cut back because of problems with my eyesight.
Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Passed an exam and obtained a license required for my job.
As for the upcoming week perhaps I can go back to getting my B 12 shots. I had to stop because of meetings with my brother Stephen’s Group Home/Residence and his training center, then last Friday I had to take that professional exam. Since not receiving my B 12 shots I’ve noticed I’ve been more tired. Self-care is so difficult because with my long hours at work and caring for Stephen my needs fall to the bottom of the list. Of course as you all know I Love my brother Stephen more than anything so I’m willing to sacrifice my time for his. He is more important. I always wonder about these folks who talk about Self-Care. They must not work, be retired, or are self-employed or just filthy rich!!
Can’t Donate Money?? Well many Residential Homes for Disabled Adults are in need of Art Supplies, Board Games or your time as a Volunteer. Are you a gifted and talented photographer? Well many adults with Autism are eager to learn photography and would be delighted to have you as a teacher!!
People with Autism are very creative, talented and gifted and enjoy expressing their creativity. Please Observe my brother Stephen as Artist. Drawing and creating collages are just one of the many ways he expresses himself as an Artist.

Gideon’s Greeting
When the angel of the Lord found Gideon cowering in fear from the Midianites, the angel said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (Judges 6:12 NIV). So say those words to yourself whenever you are afraid. Even when, like Gideon, you don’t feel anything like a warrior, say, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

With your answers, please remember we are in the SYW world which may not always match our reality.
What is the most fun thing you did in school?
Any type of Art! Also a cinematography class I took in my Senior Year of High School. All we did was watch movies! The funniest part of that semester was when my teacher answered a knock at the door and when he opened it somebody plastered him with a Coconut Cream pie!! LOL!! Shades of Soupy Sales!!
What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)
Beagles. Had a Beagle named Dolly when I was a little girl. Also I’m a big Snoopy fan.
You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met. Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?
Sure! Why not?! Since I’m a Single Lady I do many activities and attend many functions alone. Great way to meet people and have some interesting conversations
Complete this sentence: Never In My Life Have I….
Bungee Jumped or Parachuted out of a plane. And I never will!! Fear of heights! Riding in an Army helicopter, C 130 & C 140 was enough for me while I was in the Army!
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Just happy not to be in as much pain as I was last week. Those of you who suffer from arthritis and back pain know what I mean. Yesterday I was able to sweep, mop my floor and continue with my Spring Cleaning program! Hooray!! Some days I’m totally sidelined by extreme pain but this past weekend was good and I accomplished lots of cleaning!! Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!!
Looking forward to next weekend and the opportunity to rest, relax and sleep!!

Blanking out. Something that happens more often as we get older. Those of you over 50 know exactly what I’m talking about. As for the rest of you just wait. You’ll get there.
I’ve been working at the museum for eight years and I can forget the name of a co-worker with whom I’ve worked on a steady basis for seven of those eight years. Just yesterday I ran into one of the guards, a young lady I see every day. Do you think I remember her name?! No!! However I never forget a face. Lucky for me I was getting off the train so I smiled, waved and we exchanged Happy Hellos. Escaped embarrassment. Such a nice pleasant young woman. The last placed I Lived I was there for 22 years yet I still forgot folks names! Or I’d put the wrong name to a face.
Now here’s the Oxymoron. As a museum security guard the visitors expect me to know not only where every piece of art is but how to get there. Fortunately after eight and a half years I know where most of the major most popular most asked for artworks are located and since I’ve been posted in every section of the museum I can tell you how to best access them. No I do not know where every last piece of art the museum owns is located. That would be impossible as much of it is in storage and the paintings are rotated. Security Guards are not human computers.
I seem to have an affinity for paintings. The first wing I was assigned to was 19th Century Art. At that time I was so bored I memorized not only where every painting was located but the artist and genre, Impressionism, Realism, Post Impressionists, British Romanticism (The Pre-Raphaelites) etc….
Security guards have no say so in where we are posted so I’ve been in the Modern Art wing, the American Wing, African Art, Asian Art, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts. After listening to the docents give tours I can pretty much give you good background and/or history of artworks located in those sections. I’m not an expert by far.
The Experts in the Museum are the Curators and the Conservation staff. Also I’m an English Major not an Art History Major. All I have is on the job knowledge supplemented by reading books and watching videos on art.
Now I’ve also been posted in the Egyptian and Greek sections. Please do not ask me about this art for I will surely draw a Blank. If you are a student Google is your Friend and/or the Museum website/Libraries. Or better yet Go to the Information Desk because all you’ll get from me is a Blank Look. I don’t spend enough time in these galleries to gain knowledge nor do I wish to do so. I prefer paintings and some sculptures.
When I was a girl my Dad used to say I practiced “Selective Hearing.” I never seemed to hear him when he was calling me. Especially if he had some task or errand for me to perform. “Deborah! Don’t you hear me?!! Turn down that radio/TV!! Pay attention!!
My Dad did not like to raise his voice and when he did so I knew my ass was grass and I was up shit creek with no oars. In other words I was in serious trouble. So maybe it’s the same thing with People’s Names and Artworks. My Middle-Age Senior Brain is practicing Selective Memory!! LOL!!
All art graphics are from Google unless otherwise stated.
