THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: VISION

Proverbs 29:18

King James Version (KJV)

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Bible Scripture Verse the Lord gave me way back in the mid-1980s concerning my writing.

Habakkuk 2:2-3

King James Version (KJV)

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

You write your wishes/prayers on the Lantern then float it in a body of water. I’ve done various volunteer activities with this Buddhist Temple.  I don’t attend as much as I used to but I still get together with my Japanese friends for Buddhist services, chanting and meditation.

My Greatest Wish is to spend more time with my brother Stephen who is an Awesome Autism Guy! ♡ ♡ ☆ ☆

Surf Scented Memories

Scent

An idea for this post came while I was riding the subway home. Suddenly the scents, smells, odors and fragrances of my childhood visits to Coney Island and Rockaway Playland came back to me.  In a moment while I was riding on the funky L train I could actually smell, the surf, sand, the ocean and of course those World Famous Nathan’s Hot Dogs!!

Of course outside of New York Coney Island is probably the better known of the two. I remember my paternal cousins used to live in Brooklyn and when I got old enough to ride the bus from Queens into Brooklyn by myself I would visit them, making friends with their friends. One Coney Island memory stands out from all the rest. I was about 15 and I was hanging out with this boy (I was not allowed to date and I doubt I told my parents I was spending time with a boy!!) Anyway we played handball. I sucked but he put up with me and at some point we went to Coney Island. At some point he wanted to ride the famous Coney Island Cyclone roller-coaster. Now this is after we had been chowing down on hot dogs and other food! Well I finally gave in to his entreaties and on we went. Needless to say the Cyclone did not agree with me and all the food I had previous eaten was then forcibly ejected from my body. Even though the wild ride on the Cyclone had stopped my digestive system went into volcano mode with lunch becoming a memory littering the ground! I think at that point the fellow felt bad but other than that disaster over all I had a nice time.

Of course over the years I have been back to Coney Island many times but have avoided the Cyclone and ALL Roller Coasters at any venue including Six Flags!! Can’t stomach them!!

Now my brother Stephen on the other hand is totally different from me. He LOVES Roller Coasters and that includes the ones where you are suspended by a harness with your legs flying free in the breeze!! Strange how two siblings can have such different tastes!! LOL!!

Here is some more information on Coney Island:

Coney Island Cyclone

 http://lunaparknyc.com/attractions/cyclone/
Luna Park is the name of an amusement park in the neighborhood of Coney Island, Brooklyn in New York City that opened on May 29, 2010 at the former site of Astroland, an amusement park that had been in operation for 46 years.
Address: 1000 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11224
Opened: 2010
Opened: June 26, 1927

Another great Coney Island event which I hope to attend this year is the Annual Mermaid Parade. After all I’ve been living in Brooklyn since the end of 2012 and have not made it out to the parade. Now where or not I will dress up as a Mermaid depends upon my mood and the weather as we get closer to June.  I should just go ahead and order a Mermaid Costume perhaps in April. Now that will be something because I have never seen a Black Mermaid!  So I may be the first African-American Mermaid unless some other Beautiful Sister has beat me to the punch.

Here my link to photos of three gorgeous mermaids I ran into on the subway after last years parade!!  Lovely Ladies All!!

rockaway-playland

My most vivid beach memories are of Rockaway Playland which consisted of not only the beach but arcade games that were fun to play. Go with your boyfriend or husband and get them to win one of those gigantic stuffed animals for you. Or compete with your beloved, family and friends to see whose is the fastest and who has the best aim to hit those targets!!

By the 1970s my cousins had moved to an apartment development called Bay Towers so I spent plenty of time with family, walking along the board walk and allowing the sand to sift between my toes. No Swimming because basically nobody in my family can swim!! That may have changed now since Stephen’s Residence takes him to the YMCA for swimming however I never conquered my fear of having my head underwater so I will let Stephen take the lead on this activity!

One summer beach vacation with me, Stephen, Our Dad were walking along the Boardwalk and this was the Summer Jam for 1974!! Whenever I hear this song immediately it takes me back to the Summer of 74 and Rockaway Playland!!

fruit-vs-fruit-juiceDo you prefer juice or fruit?

A difficult choice. Juice is more convenient because you can carry a bottle of juice with you and it is not messy to eat whereas with fresh fruit you’re peeling the fruit and creating a mess. On the other hand obviously fresh fruit is better because sugar is added to most juices unless you do home juicing of fresh fruit but that too is time consuming. So I’d say juice on the job ~~ fresh fruit at home.

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?

Big Town. The Big Apple. Yes I Love it. When I was younger and my Maternal Grandmother and Aunts were alive I used to visit them in Dayton, Ohio. Talk about boring. No I could never live in a rural or suburban community where there is nothing to do and you must drive everywhere. Despite my complaints about the New York City MTA for Non-Drivers like me our Transit system makes New York an excellent place to live.

If you were to paint a picture of your childhood, what colors would you use?

All the Colors of the Rainbow because for me childhood was pretty much carefree. Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange… anything bright. It is only when I got to adulthood that things became murky grays and muddiness.

Ways to Relax List: Make a list of what relaxes you and helps you feel calm.

SLEEP!!!!!

Spending time with my brother Stephen who is an Awesome Autism Guy!! Hooray!!

Time with my cat Sylvester.

Writing.

Photography in good weather.

Listening to music.

Watching videos/films/movies on Netflix and YouTube.

Going to any of New York City’s Botanic Gardens when the weather is good.

Hanging out in Central Park.

Spending time exploring the streets, places and faces of Harlem my Dad’s birthplace and where he grew up. Also one of the greatest and best Black History spots!!

Attending Cultural Events in New York.

Going to the beach even though I have not done this in years. With my work schedule virtually no time.

Visiting Museums other than the one that I work for!

Reading even though I’ve had to cut back because of problems with my eyesight.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Passed an exam and obtained a license required for my job.

As for the upcoming week perhaps I can go back to getting my B 12 shots. I had to stop because of meetings with my brother Stephen’s Group Home/Residence and his training center, then last Friday I had to take that professional exam. Since not receiving my B 12 shots I’ve noticed I’ve been more tired.  Self-care is so difficult because with my long hours at work and caring for Stephen my needs fall to the bottom of the list. Of course as you all know I Love my brother Stephen more than anything so I’m willing to sacrifice my time for his. He is more important. I always wonder about these folks who talk about Self-Care. They must not work, be retired, or are self-employed or just filthy rich!!

The Rent is Too Damn High Part 2

A few days ago my room-mate informed me that next year he is leaving as our rents are going up to the stratosphere so if he leaves so must I.  My room-mate is a school teacher and I am a museum security guard. New York City rents are brutalizing folks like us. In order to live comfortably in New York City you must make upwards of $70 a year this is a salary that neither school teachers nor security guards can ever achieve unless you take on extra jobs or work non-stop overtime.

Basically the working class is being crushed. Big time!

I’m looking to move from my current Brooklyn location to either Washington Heights in Manhattan or to the Boogie Down Bronx. Must be near the subway walking distance to the train and cat friendly. Where I go my cat Sylvester goes with me. Safety is also paramount.

I’m also willing to consider Queens as long as it is a short walk to the subway. Also wherever I go whether I wind up in a studio or a one-bedroom it must have enough room and be in a safe neighborhood where Stephen can visit me. It would also be nice for the neighborhood to have amenities like good grocery stores, banks, a Walgreens pharmacy, etc…

I hope to make the move sometime around Spring/Summer/Early Autumn 2017.

Please contact me privately using my Gmail address. Thanks!!

Gentrification is pushing working class people like me out of the neighborhood.  Once the Hipsters start moving in the rest of us are forced to leave. I like Brooklyn, I enjoy living here and wish that I could stay. Truthfully since I will be making more money in my new position technically I could stay if I worked DOUBLE SHIFTS FOUR TIMES A WEEK!!  Yes if I did maximum overtime which would mean giving up writing, photography and naturally blogging I could stay in my Beloved Brooklyn. If I give up having any kind of life including Not Seeing Stephen I could remain put but I’m not willing to do that so move I must!!

I just wanted to add the link of a blog post that really impressed me. Being pretty or beautiful is temporary and my days of pretty are long over. When pretty fades that’s where Strong takes over.
