Stephen’s Photo-Collage Art Project

Stephen’s Photo-Collage Art Project

Stephen and I have been working on this project since March. It is ongoing as Stephen can only be with me either during my vacation or when I can get extra days away from work. For safety I cut out the images and Stephen strategically places them on the canvas. We are two Artists working together, channeling our mutual sibling creativity to provide more beauty in the world. I believe Stephen’s Autism gives him special talents and abilities which he expresses in his own unique way. I don’t really care too much for labels but I suppose Stephen’s creations can be put within the category of Folk Art or Outsider Art.

One day with God’s grace, guidance and providence I would like to bring more Art projects and programs to adults with Autism. I think society and the media has such a narrow view of individuals with Autism and my goal is to show them in a different light. I’ve already developed a photography program which I hope will be accepted by agencies that provide services for developmentally disabled adults.

I feel partnerships with small local neighborhood museums and art galleries would be more than willing to showcase artworks from adult developmentally disabled artists. So far I’ve not been able to get buy-in from the organizations that serve the developmentally/intellectually disabled communities but perhaps one day God will open doors for me and Stephen.  I have many hopes, dreams and goals but it looks like they will have to wait until I retire in summer 2018. In the meantime I will continue to encouragement, support and showcase my brother Stephen’s art.

Handwriting | The Daily Post

Handwriting

Many of us have heard the expression “Handwriting on the Wall.”  Here is where it may have originated.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Daniel%205

Daniel 5 New King James Version (NKJV)

In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.

Ambidextrous

Some people are Ambidextrous. I am not one of them. I’m right handed. Stephen is left handed.  Because of past battles with carpel tunnel syndrome and current wars with arthritis I hate to sign paperwork or documents.  As a writer I carry around a small notebook but some days I can’t even read my own handwriting!!

am·bi·dex·trous
ˌambēˈdekst(ə)rəs/
adjective
  1. (of a person) able to use the right and left hands equally well.
“few of us are naturally ambidextrous”
    • (of an implement) designed to be used by left-handed and right-handed people with equal ease.

Automatic writing

Some people have or claim to have the ability to write messages from the great beyond. I’ve had my own spiritual or out of body experiences so perhaps there is some truth to this ability.  Personally I believe in approaching the spirit world with great care for both evil and good exists in these realms.

I am not a linguist by any stretch of the imagination but I believe handwriting encompasses not only alphabets used by many cultures but pictorial etchings including Egyptian hieroglyphics. Love Japanese, Farsi and Arabic writing also. I find character based handwriting fascinating. Calligraphy is one of my favorite art forms.

When I was a little girl I made up my own personal alphabet, handwriting and words. Designed a book in which my main character Mr. X had various adventures. I could not have been more than seven or eight.  Not to brag but I was creatively gifted as a child and my parents encouraged me. They were always buying me various art supplies and Mom and Dad kept me engaged with arts & crafts. As for my book I think it lies in the bottom of my trunk which is now in storage until I can once more afford my own place.

What Price Beauty or Fame?

What Price Beauty or Fame?

As many of you may know I work as a Security Officer in a museum so I am Blessed to be surrounded by Beautiful Works of Art all day long.  No matter which wing or section of the museum I am posted I always find artworks with limitless intrinsic value.

One of the many repetitive questions I get from museum visitors is “What is the most expensive painting/artwork in the museum?”  At first I was puzzled that one could be in a gallery full of Rembrandts, Vermeers, Caravaggio’s, John Singer Sargent, Manet, Monet, Degas or any of many gifted artists and seek only to know a price tag!  Well since I’ve now been working at the museum for eight years I’m used to the question and no longer offended. Still a bit puzzled but I suppose for some people it is human nature to want to know the cost.  I explain to the visitors that most of the artworks are donated to the museum, there are some purchases but very few.

I am not an artist. At least not a visual artist in that respect. Many of my fellow guards are artists. I highly respect them and artists throughout all ages and eras.  I admit to being a late blooming photographer and a frenetic writer!  I often introduce myself as a Writer masquerading as a museum security guard!!

Being possessed of a sensitive nature I absorb what’s around me. My favorite art in the museum are paintings. I feel paintings speak to me. They tell me a story.  Even landscapes and still lifes have some tale to impart to the viewer. Since my job can be monotonous and boring in between patron queries I allow the paintings to tell me their stories. Also as the Tour Guides and Docents introduce various genres of art and artists to the visiting public I’m there soaking up their wisdom like a sponge. Many times when I get home I’ll listen to art classes and studies which are readily available on YouTube.  When I can I may purchase a book or catalog on a specific exhibit or artist who has taken my fancy.

Many of these artists were not appreciated, famous or in some cases able to make a decent living via their art. Most only gained fame long after their deaths. Some who became famous during their lifetimes did not necessarily have happy lives.

One of the best things about working for a museum in New York is that my ID card enables me to get into any New York City museum for FREE!!  So all those trips to various museums you have read about cost me nothing except for the food and any item I purchase from the gift shops.

And Now for the Good News!!!

Good Health News

All my tests came back normal! I’m totally and completely healthy!! My general practitioner did say I do need to drink more water and cut back on starch & carbs. Other than that I’m in Great Shape!!

STEPHEN VINCENT PALMER GOOD NEWS

Stephen attended a “Paint with Friends” party on Feb. 26th. Here is his artwork. Autism is No obstacle to Stephen. He is very creative and ready to express his talents!! Stephen has also successfully tried his hand with photography!  I LOVE MY BROTHER STEPHEN PALMER!!

StephenPalmerArt

Stephen will be with me this weekend March 5th & 6th and we will take in a movie and visit local museums.  A great way to end my Chillaxin’ two week vacation!

I have always seen and viewed my brother Stephen in a positive light. For me Stephen is my personal Blessing and gift from God. All of us have some degree of disability.  Autism has been a Plus + for Stephen and me.  Despite naysayer doctors back in 1963 who advised my parents to put Stephen in an institution Mom & Dad ignored the medical profession and raised Stephen to be a contributing member of society. Stephen will be 55 years old on May 3rd and continues to break barriers and amaze me. I know our parents are smiling down from Heaven on us!!

Are Self-Exploding Beings inwardly Imploding?

Are the self-exploding inwardly imploding?

Not knowing that the seeds of their self-destruction reside quietly inwardly already taking root. Ready to root out fabricated dogmas.
Boston Bomb crushed avian souls flying towards Heaven. Chaos rules the lands. Demonic Fairytale stories being lit up global TV screens.
Carnage Couture is all the rage!!

Socialites debate levels of thinness while screaming crying babies suckle on long dried up teats.

Life continues on in glass castles unfazed by human suffering. Walking Stepford skinny chic walking decorations immobilized shields of Oil dollars. One piece of glittering jewelry could feed and house one thousand lost humanities. Let us trip the light fantasies weaving around hunger, blight and destruction all the while knowing it will never touch our gleaming manors. Golden parachutes always on hand.

Mankind marches on towards dinosaur extinction by our own hands. WinTourist DashKardian superficial fantasies supplicate the masses fill the empty plates providing empty calories while Rome burns. Politics, religion unreasonable fears of contamination. Moon-Skitters thrive on cell division.

Say Their Names!! Never allow their memories to fade!!

Our decision whether, how, & when to escape the matrix.

Are the Self-Exploding inwardly Imploding? Truth, Compassion, Understanding and Victory shall win out over evil, wickedness and animosity!!  For the sacred has now become filled with the filth of the profane. An Outhouse disguised under the mantle of being a Holy Temple.
