Share Your World – January 2, 2017

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle?

None of the above. As my vision is 20/100 I cannot operate any type of motor vehicle even bikes!! Me riding a bike would be the equivalent of Mr. Magoo driving a car which is another activity I had to give up.

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year?

The most important thing is for me to find an apartment around or before Oct. 1st, 2017. It is not a question of like. Safe, clean housing that is near transportation is a necessity not something I can do without.

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you?

Being a part of the Paid Family Leave Movement for the State of New York!! I received a personal invitation from Gov. Andrew Cuomo to attend the rally! Paid Family Leave will become active Jan. 2018!!  Gov. Cuomo read the New York Times article about my difficulties being a low wage worker and trying to get time off the care for my brother Stephen who has Autism.  Please click on the second link to get the link for the New York Times article. Again Praise God my workplace situation has improved so some of the issues I faced then are no longer a problem.

I Thank God that Stephen and I Live in a Democrat, Liberal, Progressive state like New York where the Mayor and the Gov. do their best to protect their citizens, provide New Yorkers with benefits that the rest of the country does not have and is a safer space for minorities and immigrants!! New York is and will continue to be a Sanctuary fighting against all Trump policies!! Trump is against Americans who have disabilities.  I am Proud to be a Member of the Resistance!! Yes to Basic Human Rights!!

Getting Our Blessing!!

Stephen and I continue to be Mighty Warriors and Autism Activist/Advocates!

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon?

I’d take flying the kite as I have a Fear of Heights!! I had enough of helicopters and planes!

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Glad the holidays are over and behind me. I can now return to some sort of normal life. No special plans for either this week or next week. January tends to be a bad weather month so other than going to work I’m staying in. However lately the weather has been in the 40s and 50s which I hope lasts for the entire winter.

Sibling Stories

Sibling Stories

This is the first of what I hope will be many Sibling Stories about the siblings of developmentally disabled adults. The siblings are often overlooked and there does not seem to be much in the way of programs or services that address the needs of siblings so I’ve decided to do some blog posts to highlight the lives of siblings. Our needs, hopes, dreams, goals and desires. We are multi-faceted and multi-dimensional.

The first in this series is my buddy and former co-worker Mr. Harvey Lackey. I had the pleasure of working with Harvey for four years. He is a young man filled with joy, happiness and a quick wit.

Please enjoy and give his music a listen.

Also please remember my Theme Song Jingle!!

Don’t hate! Communicate!! Collaborate!! Listen to your Heart and Donate!!  To Agencies and Organizations that provide support services and programs to Developmentally Disabled persons!! Thanks!!

Living with an developmentally disabled sister is a job and work in progress. You always have to keep one eye open to keep her safe. Conversation wise is not easy on my part, because she is limited in some ways with conversation & i’m not really a talkative person and i’m constantly busy. Living with 2 other older sisters & mother makes it easier to deal with. She influences my music a in some ways and she loves listening to the radio a lot in her free time. She was under care at a program called AMAC and currently under a program called IAHD.
Bio:
Ras (X) is a producer/MC/Underground Indie Artist & was born in New York & raised in the Bronx. He loves hip hop, & has been a fan since the ’90s as a kid growing up. The artist’s and songs that really got him wanting to produce & MC was 2Pac, Nore’s “Banned From TV” & Canibus. After hearing 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, he thought, I have 2 try 2 write sum lyrics. He would spend hours writing rhymes & trying 2 imitate various rappers flows & lyrics. Also, he is a huge fan of that mid ’90s-early ’00s sound. He try’s 2 get his music 2 sound like that era in the best possible way. He is a workaholic, & spends as much time possible making beats & just trying to stay on top of his game. The moniker “Ras (X)” comes from his middle name Rashid, shortened to just Ras & the (X) is unknown, meaning it could mean anything, such as Ras (X)-Cellent, Ras (X)-Man, Ras (X)-Troadinaire & so on.
Ras (X) loves the process of making music. It can stem from mood, experience, everyday situations or short notice ideas. In other words, it’s very sporadic. Hearing the finished product is what drives Ras (X).

Don’t Hate! Donate!!

Can’t Donate Money??  Well many Residential Homes for Disabled Adults are in need of Art Supplies, Board Games or your time as a Volunteer. Are you a gifted and talented photographer? Well many adults with Autism are eager to learn photography and would be delighted to have you as a teacher!!

People with Autism are very creative, talented and gifted and enjoy expressing their creativity. Please Observe my brother Stephen as Artist. Drawing and creating collages are just one of the many ways he expresses himself as an Artist.

Gideon’s Greeting
When the angel of the Lord found Gideon cowering in fear from the Midianites, the angel said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (Judges 6:12 NIV). So say those words to yourself whenever you are afraid. Even when, like Gideon, you don’t feel anything like a warrior, say, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

Share Your World – 2016 Week 46

Are you a traveler or a homebody?

Homebody. The furthest I’ve traveled in the last eight 8 years is New Jersey, Washington, DC and Connecticut!

What kind of TV commercial would you like to make? Describe it.

Hmmm….. Now I don’t have a TV but perhaps I could make a commercial showing how we are more alike than different. Something to promote LTD, Love Togetherness and Devotion. It would feature myself and my brother Stephen an Awesome Autism Guy who is the most Loving and Caring person I know.

My first Autism Fundraising Video Efforts.

Describe yourself in a word that starts with the first letter of your name.

Devoted. Devoted to my brother Stephen.

List some fun things for a rainy day.

Sleeping. Eating. If Stephen his here with me doing some art projects, i.e. collages. Listening to music. Working on my blogs.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Grateful that I survived our devastating and disappointing election. Seeking ways that I can promote peace plus helping those who are disadvantaged like the Autism Community. It is not enough to complain about D.T. but we have to do things that will help those who are disenfranchised.  Stop Complaining!! Start using your Blogs in ways that will help those in need!

In that effort I’m encouraging everyone to make donations to Queens Centers for Progress and AABR whose programs and services have changed my brother Stephen’s life and many other developmentally disabled adults lives for the better.

Remember even if you don’t have money you can donate time via volunteering, cars, art supplies, etc………

I’m Looking forward to raising as much money as possible for both AABR and QCP. Please share this with all your Networks and encourage folks to donate.  Thank you and God Bless!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Gastro Drama and the Holidays

Well after this week’s USA nation-wide election drama it is time to focus back in my own personal health drama. My Gastro Doctor put me on a low-fiber diet. I do notice a difference. Certain vegetables, legumes and wheat do seem to set my stomach off in the wrong direction. I still have not picked up the solution and tummy meds from Walgreens mainly because when I went on Monday they did not have them.

By the time the medicine and solution came in I had to go to work. There is no way I’m getting off the subway train at Nostrand and Fulton just to pick up all this junk then try to get back on the train going home after standing 8 hours at work.  The New York City Subway system is over 112 years old and getting worse in terms of running properly day by day.  A 45 minute train ride can take up to 2 hours.
Usually once I’m on the train there is no getting off. Looks like I will be rescheduling these stupid G.I. tests for another time since I cannot take days off next week just to spend 1 day drinking nasty solution, have the procedure then report to work the next day. Impossible. Plus they actually expect you to have someone take you home after the procedure!! Huh! Come on! Most people my age work. I can’t get days off and neither can they nor do they live near me that should be responsible for me getting home safely.
Anyway I would not ask somebody to do that for me. I’ve gotten myself home from various hospital E.R.s at all hours of the day and night by myself in various states of medical distress with no help so when the time comes I can do it again. I’m used to this.  Back in November 7, 2008 I had a minor stroke. Called my cousin thinking for sure that he would pick me up to take me home. I had lost vision in my left eye. Did he come for me at the hospital? Nope!  He decided it would be more fun to take his then girlfriend out on the town!  Go figure. That’s why I don’t rely on people and rarely ask for help.  Real Life.
Also my finances are getting on an even keel. I’m starting to become more financially stable so I’m not going to risk that by missing days of work for some dumb tests. I like paying my rent and bills. I’m feeling more comfortable about my money situation. As long as I can do overtime all will be well.

Fun Stuff

The only exception I made in terms of train hopping was for my vitamin shot yesterday. That’s easy. It can be done after work. No problems. No issues. Simple. Easy Breezy. Love it.
Also looking forward to Celebrating Thanksgiving with Stephen and some of our New Jersey cousins. Looking into getting tickets for at least one perhaps two holiday shows. We don’t do Black Friday or as I like to call it Broke Friday!! LOL!!  🙂   😀
