Manic Panic Rock ‘ N ‘ Roll Red

As many of my loyal readers already know I am a big fan of Manic Panic by Tish and Snooky.

For the past few months I’ve been rocking Manic Panic Vampire Red. This past week I received an email from Manic Panic telling me of a new shade of Red named Manic Panic Rock ‘ N ‘ Roll Red selling for only  $10 dollars. Naturally I ordered one jar and it came in the mail a few days ago.

I have applied this new shade of Red combined with the leftovers from the previous one.

Simply Red. Fiery Red Empress! High Voltage Duchess!  Shazam!

Do you notice any difference in my hair shade or color from Feb/March photo posts? Looking at these pics I do notice my hair has grown since I cut my hair in February. Now I’m just gonna let my Afro extend to the sky even though this will involve getting up close and personal relationship with my blow dryer since my hair tends to snag and tangle. As my hair continues to grow I might invest in the hand held steamer described in the below NappyFu Video.

Try to ignore the dark under eye circles. It has been a rough week at work. Not much sleep. I did put some Vitamin E Oil on my face which will hopefully get rid of the eye circles.

Any posts you might have missed can be found on my Photography Blog Roaming Urban Gypsy:  https://roamingurbangypsy.com/  (Shameless Plug)

Anyway Please let me know what you think about my New Red Hair Color!!

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

DeBorah is a Biblical name taken from the book of Judges chapters 4 & 5. DeBorah was a Judge over Israel prior to the appointment of kings.

DeBorah is a Hebrew name meaning Queen Bee.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judges+4-5

I found this funny humorous definition at the Urban Dictionary. I agree with everything except the “men want me” part. So far no Prince Charming has come along for me in my 58 years of living!! LOL!!  🙂    😀

Hebrew spelling. Also means The Bee and to speak eloquently Deborah’s are usually sophisticated, witty, intelligent with a great sense of humour. Other women are usually jealous of Deborah’s and men want her.
Woah… I met this fantastic woman in this classy art gallery on the weekend her name must be ‘Deborah’
As for my middle name Ann my Mom and her sisters all agreed that any girl children they had would all have the middle name Ann therefore all my female maternal cousins have Ann as their middle name.

Music or silence while working?

When I worked in an office I had a small radio in my cubicle. We were allowed to listen to our music as long as we kept it low. I enjoy music as it uplifts the spirit and makes the day go by faster. Now I work in a Museum which has a restaurant on the lower level so whatever they have on their computer playlist is what I’m compelled to listen to!! No choice!! LOL!!

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?

I suppose a Safe Deposit Box. I used to have one and those places are really secure. I remember being accompanied by a bank employee and going through several heavy duty chamber doors that reminded me of the beginning sequence of the old time TV Show Get Smart!!  One of my favorite Old School TV Shows. LOL!!  For you young folks here is the Get Smart theme:

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

Bungee Jumping and Hang Gliding!! To tell the truth any Extreme sport. I’m now at the age where I prefer staying safe and secure with my feet solidly on the ground! Also I’m deathly afraid of heights!!

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Had a health consultation with a Holistic Healer. I accepted her invitation to live a more healthy and productive lifestyle and God willing I plan to join her group focusing on holistic and organic ways to improve health.

http://www.empressiveherbs.com/

She focuses mostly on Women of African descent but only because Black Americans have high rates of high blood pressure and diabetes. Cancer is also a plague in the African-American community. Ladies of any color or race can join in. Yes I have high blood pressure and I’ve been told by my doctor that my sugar numbers are going up every years so I might get diabetes. Hopefully I can prevent this and not die an early death like my parents. Also if I can get rid of the arthritis without taking all types of horrible pills I’m down with the holistic natural game plan.

Another high note was I stepped up my Vitamin infusion health plan by adding CoQ10+ to my regimen. I have been taking the B 12 shots since last year. I only fell off in Jan. & Feb. because I had several meetings to attend for my brother Stephen. Got back on the Vitamin Infusion wagon early March.  The Vitamin injections do help but like any health strategy you must be consistent.

As for the upcoming week I’m looking forward to entering and celebrating the month of April and praying that old man winter will finally release his grip on New York.

Travel Blessings: Lost & Found

Travel Blessings:LOST & FOUND

This incident has become fuzzy in my mind over time but I remember it occurred while I was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. That would have been around 1980/81.  My MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was as a 75D aka Personnel Records Specialist. From time to time I was sent TDY (Temporary Duty Assignment) to other bases in a supporting role to soldiers on maneuvers.

Once I was sent to Ft. Polk, LA or as my fellow troops and I liked to call it at the time Ft. Puke!  If you’ve ever been to Louisiana you know it contains a wide variety of scary horrific wildlife and creatures that must be left overs from the prehistoric era. Snakes, scorpions, bats, etc….

Of course once I received my TDY orders and paperwork I packed up my duffel bag thinking that it would meet me on base.  Boy was I wrong! I made it to Ft. Polk but my duffel bad did not. I wound up having to hand wash my underwear as I had no change of clothing.  The Commanding Officer assigned a female officer to take me into town to buy some new clothes until my duffel bag could be located.

Eventually to my great relief the duffel bag was found and once again I had clean uniforms and clothing. Who knows where it had been for between 24 and 48 hours. Perhaps riding around the luggage carousel at the airport aimlessly until a staff person picked it up, contacted the base who had somebody retrieve it so I would not be naked!!

Reduced Activity Reasons

There are many reasons that this blog will have long spaces of inactivity. Also the reason why I won’t be writing any Great American novels any time soon. I’ve had to reset my priorities.

#1 is my own personal health and medical issues. Since my stroke back in November 2008 whenever I get annual leave time off I use a portion of it to go to see my various doctors for a myriad of ailments. Unlike others who take vacations and actually go away somewhere that is no longer possible for me. I take medical vacations. Due to the time restrictions of my job it is almost impossible to get doctor’s appointments because they clash with what days I can take off. You tell the doctors I’m off Fridays/Saturdays and they want to give you an appointment for a Wednesday or Thursday. Well I’m a Working Woman. I’ve got rent and bills to pay and those obligations cannot be met if I take days off from my job. Or doctors want you to go to offices far from where you live. Now due to vision problems I cannot drive. Every so often I ask a cousin who is a healthy retired man of leisure to drive me somewhere but he never does. Well If I cannot get anyone to accompany me for various medicals tests or appointments then I can’t go. Plain and simple. I have no alternatives.

Also my job requires me to work long hours. There is no getting around that. This job is what pays my rent, my bills plus feeds and clothes me. This blog does not do any of that so it is about to become a footnote in my life.

Autism Responsibilities

Budget cuts and the low pay of Direct Care workers means that I must take on more responsibility for my brother Stephen.  My brother Stephen Vincent Palmer is #1 in my Life. Nothing and nobody comes before him. My Love for him overrides anything else that’s going on in my life.

If you think that the current sitting president immigration policies will not have a detrimentally affect on disabled populations well think again. Who do you think does those jobs involving feeding, bathing, toileting, cleaning, cooking and other low paid work for folks like my brother Stephen?  That’s right! You guessed it!! Immigrants!!  Think about all the people who care for the elderly in nursing homes, provide home care,  child care, restaurant work, pick our vegetables and fruits for our dinner table…again the answer is immigrants.  And all of those essential jobs are extremely low paid.

However immigrants like those of us born in America need a decent paycheck with benefits.  Heck like I’ve said before I don’t make much being a Museum Security Guard. As a result I’ve gone through eviction and bankruptcy. And yes I was not only born and raised here but I am a college graduate and a U.S. Army Veteran. If things are bad for me it is even worse for those who come to this country seeking a better life. But I digress. Back to Autism and Direct Service Provider issues.

The United States government has money for war, guns, weapons, bullets, big business, the rich and wealthy but No money for our developmentally disabled population?  Direct Care Workers Need to make a living wage.  Rent for apartments in New York is well over $1200 a month. You cannot survive on $10 an hour and live. Housing for the working class is almost nonexistent.

Even with the coming Paid Family Leave law which will take effect Jan. 2018 I still won’t be able to take off to care for Stephen because the stipulations of the law say that I will only get a portion of my paycheck not the entire paycheck. Therefore I cannot survive on portions I need the entire amount.

Basically I’ve had to make some tough decisions. There were other factors also. I’m tired of dealing with racists, bigots, trump supporters, trolls and flamers. Race brings out folks true evil nature. I’ve seen them hide behind Bible scripture verses and Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes all well knowing that the discrimination against the disabled, the working poor, people of color especially women of color won’t ever intrude upon their lives.

But I know that I must pick my battles. Truthfully I’m getting older and I cannot do the things I used to do therefore all my priorities and energies must shift to vital areas. As for the future when I retire and I do plan to retire when I’m not spending 16 hour days at work then I can begin to think about other projects, dreams, goals and plans.  Until then I must deal with my current reality.

For those of you who live in the United States and wish to take action Please call, write, email, or visit your Elected Officials to advocate for our most vulnerable populations including the elderly, Women, Veterans, children, animals, the developmentally disabled and immigrants.

It may take me a long time to answer or respond to any comments so please don’t be offended. Life changes. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

SYW BANNER

black-or-green-olivesEver ran out of gas in your vehicle?

No. Never. When I was able to drive I always made sure that I had a full tank of gas.

Which are better: black or green olives?

Neither one. Olives are too salty and I cannot eat them. High Blood Pressure. Pass the grapes or blueberries instead.

If you were a great explorer, what would you explore?

Africa. For me it would be like going home since that is where my ancestors are from. Not so much explore as it would be a Pilgrimage. Return to the Motherland. Fortunately I’ve made many friends from Africa via Blogging so I will go to Africa some day.

Quotes List: At least three of your favorite quotes?

Habakkuk 2:2

King James Version (KJV)

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it.

Proverbs 4:7

King James Version (KJV)

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

And anything my parents used to say.  Here are three from my Dad Edward G. Palmer:

I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.

It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

Get something in your head not just on your head.

And from my Mom Mable Palmer:

If you mess up. You clean up.

God don’t like Ugly.

What goes around comes around.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Grateful that today is my Birthday and God has allowed me to see another year of life. Happy to be 58!! Looking forward to my upcoming vacation starting Friday. Planning to spend time with my brother Stephen and relax.
