We gathered once again in Prospect Park located in Brooklyn, New York not only to dance and get our groove on but to support Black business and Black Entrepreneurs.

Great minds think alike. When I was younger I was a real Fashionista as the saying goes. Of course when I was a little girl my Dad would take me shopping in Macy’s and basically he picked out all my clothes. Fortunately Daddy had good taste. I also picked up my sense of style from my mother and my paternal aunts. I idealized my late great Aunt Thelma a great deal. She would take me shopping to Syms and other downtown lower Manhattan stores back in the 70s. Aunt Thelma was a Fashion forward Lady. There was a running joke in our house that I had to get dressed up to take the garbage out!! LOL!!
Then in my 20s obviously I was picking out my own clothes and my favorite color was Black. In fact nearly everything in my wardrobe was Black and I had what looked like a million pairs of shoes!! My Dad asked me if I was practicing to be a Ninja and felt I was a follower of Imelda Marcos who was famous for all her pairs of shoes.
I also tended to be Matchy-matchy in my 20s & 30s perhaps a little into my 40s I suppose because at that time I was a manager at a Non-profit and I wanted to look professional. I did spice things up when I went out with my friends. Now as I make my way through my 50s getting dangerously close to 60 I’m all for the bright colors, patterns, loose fitting (my tummy is no longer flat), African, American-Indian jewelry, Clothing made in India. The clothing cannot be too loose or too big as I’m petite and I believe a Woman should wear her clothing. The clothes should not be wearing her. I’ve seen the now grown up Full House twins at museum special events and they are really small petite ladies and they looked like they were being swallowed up in their outfits.
I’m no longer afraid to mix what most people would call opposing patterns for an eclectic look. I’ve received many compliments from co-workers and friends on my outfits. Spring, summer and fall are my favorite seasons because I can really cut loose with outfits and I’m Thankful to the WWW/Web because I can get so many new and interesting ideas for what looks best on me.
I’m even doing a little more experimenting with make-up. I was never really big on make-up even when I was young, but adding a little color to my face to avoid looking washed out. And of course there is the Manic Panic Red Hair!! Yes Always the RED HAIR!

Share Your World – 2016 Week 51 – Favorite Holiday Edition
What is your favorite holiday?
Halloween. But during this season I choose Kwanzaa which is an African-American Cultural Holiday celebrating Black culture and Unity. Actually it can be observed by All persons of African Descent. Kwanzaa enables me to return and honor the traditions of my African Ancestors.

a secular festival observed by many African Americans from December 26 to January 1 as a celebration of their cultural heritage and traditional values.
What types of food is associated with your holiday?
Unfortunately since I’m always at work I don’t do any cooking nor do I get to attend the Kwanzaa celebrations I’m invited to. However I do have some African garb which I plan to wear and I will post sometime between December 26th and Jan. 1st.
It does have spiritual aspects but it can be celebrated by African-Americans of all faiths and belief systems. It is a way for Black people to celebrate Our African Heritage! Celebrating Family, Community and Culture. Kwanzaa means First Fruits!!
Day 7. Imani means faith, especially faith in ourselves.
Is there a gift exchange?
No. Kwanzaa does not focus or greed or gift giving. It is all about Black Unity!! Umoja!!
How long does the celebration last?
Seven days.

The job is going well. People like me and I’m accepted at my workplace. Looking forward to Kwanzaa!! May the Seven 7 Principles Live Strong and Proud in All Peoples of African Descent!! Ase!!
Stephen and I went to the 12:10 showing of X-Men Apocalypse at the Jamaica Multiplex theater located in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
We got into the movie for only $20 bucks.

All by showing my AARP card! LOL!!
Let’s see now! Stephen just turned 55 earlier this month and I turned 57 back in February. Hmmm… That means I was two years old when I had my brother!! Ha!! Ha!!
X-Men Apocalypse Movie Review
This was a great movie. Initially the movie starts out in Egypt and even though you do see some Black or Brown skinned actors playing those roles it would have made me happier to see more people of color especially Black Women. In 3600 B.C.E. I thought there would have been any white people in Egypt. Directors and Producers need to acknowledge that Egypt is located in and part of Africa and Nubians ruled Ancient Egypt.
The directors take the audience back in time to explain some of the X-Men Mutant origins. All the cast are newer and younger actors (20 somethings) except Wolverine who is played by the same actor as in the previous movies but only has a small short role in this film. The movie also tells how the character Storm evolved from a petty thief who was initially on the dark side and how she discovered the truth transferring her allegiance to the good guys.
Without giving any spoilers a Woman mutant defeats the evil being and saves humanity. Excellent story-line and plot. Plenty of action.
Captain America | Civil War
Yesterday Stephen and I went to see Captain America | Civil War. Another enjoyable action filled movie. Stephen really enjoyed this movie and my personal favorite character is the Black Panther. Love him!! Next year Black Panther is supposed to get his own feature film I would really Love to see his role expanded. In fact I’d Love to see any Black Super Hero Male or Female role’s expanded and pushed to the forefront since one sees very few African or African-American Super-Heroes and even if you do see them they always see to be the loyal buddy or side kick to the white super hero. Time for Super Heroes of African Descent to Rise to the Top where we Belong!!
For the last few days my arthritis has been kicking up and my ankles are a little swollen.
Am I taking this lying down? No!! Well some rest but I’m taking abbreviated Soulful Struts and I’ve also purchased Turmeric, MSM, Biotin and Moringa Living Bitters which brings me to my next topic.
The Turmeric I got on Amazon which is convenient during the cold months when I do not want to go traipsing about freezing New York City searching for various vitamins and food supplements.
The MSM and Biotin I got from GNC around 84th Street and Lexington. I find their staff to be indifferent and somewhat rude so I will be patronizing my own people. Bottles of vitamins and other products blocked the cash register. The two clerks spent a lot of time gossiping and were not helpful.
The Moringa Living Bitters I purchased from Zam Zam an African store located along Fulton Street near Franklin Avenue. Moringa Living Bitters is a Detox and Energy Beverage which is all Natural and Organic. Taste terrible but so did the Cod Liver Oil Beef Iron wine my Dad used to make us take as children.
The young man in the store was professional, knowledgeable and polite. The store was neatly arranged, clean and smelled great!! Zam Zam offers an excellent wide selection of African products for reasonable prices. Health and Beauty, Cosmetics, Holistic supplements. Everything.
Moral of the Story for peoples of African Descent. Buy Black!! Don’t just complain about the disrespect we regularly get from certain other stores owned by other races. Let’s Move our dollars to our Black Owned stores circulating dollars within our community thus building up the race without having to rely on anyone else but ourselves!! Let us form Alliances with Africa and African merchants in order to better our situation!!
