Measure of a Life

Seasons of Love from the Musical and film Rent

I measure my Life in Love and Relationships. Not race, religion, disabilities, church affiliation, culture or tradition.  Happy for the Healthy days which are now few and in between. If you have Good Health be Thankful. Be Grateful because it can be taken away in a moment.

A Big Thank you to ALL my friends, followers and subscribers!

Does not matter to me whether you are straight or gay, Yoruba, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jewish, Christian or Muslim. Love transcends sexual orientation, race, skin color which are ALL gift from God.  One God. Many Pathways.

Life is too short to hate.  Decide how you will spend the next 525,600 minutes of 2018.

Hugs and Happy 2018!

I include pictures of my brother Stephen because he is the most Loving, Accepting, Caring, Kind, Generous person I know! He only sees people as people. Not a color. Not a stereotype or a race.  He sees human beings. New potential friends.  If an Autism Guy can grasp this concept why can’t so called normal folks?

My brother Stephen. My Blessing!

God Bless and Go Bless Somebody in 2018!

Elegy for Wait Town

Standing on the platform waiting for the subway train to arrive.

Sitting at work waiting for an end to be homeward bound.

Waiting for the M2 bus. Again waiting for the train.

Hibernation. Sabbatical. We have No Extradition Treaty from this Land.

Waiting for my weekend.

Waiting only to begin the cycle once again.

Which Season is this silent wondering??

Waiting for payday.

Metropolis reformed for the 21st Century.

Waiting for vacation.

Waiting for retirement.

Doctors Office = Wait.

Dentist Office = Wait

Waiting for physical and emotional pain to be evicted while they both claim permanent residence.

Grocery Shopping check out line = Wait

DMV = Extended Wait.  Stuck in the passing lane.

Spending most of the time waiting instead of doing.  Yet not knowing what I should do to make the wait shorter. On the other hand perhaps the wait just is and it too is waiting for destiny to manifest itself among the galaxy cosmos. Searching for Excalibur alongside Her Holy Grail.

Romance = Unknown wait. The Lover waits somewhat patiently for the signal to begin. Does true Love even exist? Or have all the Soul Mates/Twin Flames gone on strike?

In the midst of doing midway through action only to find oneself on the every present hamster wheel spinning fast deep inside a rabbit hole.

Sometimes forgetting what I’m waiting for?  Dialing. Hearing the phone ringing. Robotic voice, “I’m sorry but the number you dialed is no longer in service.

Waiting are armies of creeping vines taking back what was rightfully theirs. Trees with gnarly rooted feet tenderizing the earth in preparation for Monsoon season.

Mindless waiting versus fruitful waiting?  Patience is not my foremost virtue yet she shadows every portion of my life.  Patience is the Sugar Plum Fairy holding a dental drill spike through my jaw. Patience is a shallow grave awaiting surrender. The awkwardness of waiting beats out the waywardness of doing.

The Goddess of Harlem shall Live again and repent her people.

Waiting is a desolate abandoned isle populated with numerous shades and shadows ignorant of each other yet crowded together at the beleaguered rocky shore desperately trying to signal passing ships their screams blown away by a fierce sirocco. No deliverance for them. Harmattan blow strong my hopes and dreams carried away to rise no more.  Dust bowl funeral dirge mourners wailing marches past not even mindful of my existence.  Did the Rapture take place without St. Gabrielle scooping me up with Her multi-colored wings?

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.  Keep to the funky beat.

There are no rewards, Trophies or medals here only the next phase standing on it’s Laurels.

Stillness. Silence. Breath.

Waiting? Why? I don’t know because Godot never showed up for the Death Angel is always on time.

Our Wait is over so Let’s go to that place called home.

The Rent is Too Damn High Part 2

A few days ago my room-mate informed me that next year he is leaving as our rents are going up to the stratosphere so if he leaves so must I.  My room-mate is a school teacher and I am a museum security guard. New York City rents are brutalizing folks like us. In order to live comfortably in New York City you must make upwards of $70 a year this is a salary that neither school teachers nor security guards can ever achieve unless you take on extra jobs or work non-stop overtime.

Basically the working class is being crushed. Big time!

I’m looking to move from my current Brooklyn location to either Washington Heights in Manhattan or to the Boogie Down Bronx. Must be near the subway walking distance to the train and cat friendly. Where I go my cat Sylvester goes with me. Safety is also paramount.

I’m also willing to consider Queens as long as it is a short walk to the subway. Also wherever I go whether I wind up in a studio or a one-bedroom it must have enough room and be in a safe neighborhood where Stephen can visit me. It would also be nice for the neighborhood to have amenities like good grocery stores, banks, a Walgreens pharmacy, etc…

I hope to make the move sometime around Spring/Summer/Early Autumn 2017.

Please contact me privately using my Gmail address. Thanks!!

Gentrification is pushing working class people like me out of the neighborhood.  Once the Hipsters start moving in the rest of us are forced to leave. I like Brooklyn, I enjoy living here and wish that I could stay. Truthfully since I will be making more money in my new position technically I could stay if I worked DOUBLE SHIFTS FOUR TIMES A WEEK!!  Yes if I did maximum overtime which would mean giving up writing, photography and naturally blogging I could stay in my Beloved Brooklyn. If I give up having any kind of life including Not Seeing Stephen I could remain put but I’m not willing to do that so move I must!!

I just wanted to add the link of a blog post that really impressed me. Being pretty or beautiful is temporary and my days of pretty are long over. When pretty fades that’s where Strong takes over.

Rent is going up too darn High!!

U.S. Army Veteran (Me) seeking studio or 1 bedroom in Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn. Must be cat friendly, close to (walking distance) to the subway & safe neighborhood. Less than $800 a month rent!! Including gas and electric. Will be ready to move in September or October this year.

Sure I could work hours and hours plus tons overtime in a back breaking attempt to pay a rent that will be close to $1000 by November 2016 or I can ask for help and believe God to send me a clean safe place for me and Sylvester. Someplace that I can bring my brother Stephen.

Stephen is most important factor. If all my money goes to pay rent not counting gas, electric, food & transportation how will I find the time or funds to care for Stephen?  This is not acceptable so I’m sending out this appeal and Please Feel Free to Share to all your networks.

I believe in Miracles and Answered prayer!!

Thank you!!

Brooklyn Evening Downstream Rush

Brooklyn ~ Land of Drama and Dreamers, Hipsters, Hucksters and Healers, Shirkers and Workers……

Amidst the filth, dirt and refuse he sits. Sleeping dog by his side.  I stopped. I had to stop for my Guardian Angel bid me pause.

As I got closer I realized underneath the grit and grime of Broadway Junction, the light deprived space next to a ramshackle breakfast, bagel, Danish, egg sandwich cart was a white man possibly in his 30s or early 40s.  Unwashed tousled hair steady gaze. Hoping. Wishing. Praying that passersby will stop, recognize him a human in distress only needing a few dollars which more than likely will be used to buy dog food for faithful canine companion and maybe whatever the food cart was not able to sell during the day.

In him I see me. I was almost there. Paid my rent. Nothing left to buy food for either myself or my two feline friends. I prayed and my Guardian Angel caused the local junkies to drop $9.00 on my doorstep.  Nine whole dollars which went to Fancy Feast for my beloved cats who love me down and out, rich or poor, in sickness and in health.

Homeless with Catster

Was this man who sits peacefully and patiently once a King, an Emperor, and a contender for something greater than a Brooklyn street? Today he is a homeless man his only companion his faithful dog who arose in friendly anticipation of monetary dispensation.  Only $2.00. That’s all I could give him today. Wish I could have given more. He generously thanked me. I saw his heart through his eyes.

Homeless with Doggie

Maybe once he was a Warrior, now beset by the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune.  Did Desert Storm take the wind out of his sails? Who or what abandoned him to this desolation of watching teeming hordes of semi-purposeful beings trod the garbage strewn path to catch departing buses and subway trains to who knows where? In another life was his ever present Prince Valiant Pup a trusty steed in King Arthur’s court?  Did he reign over the Knights of the Round-table? How came he to this ignoble end, yet still maintain a semblance of dignity?
