South Street Seaport and Lady Bagpiper

My brother Stephen and I spent the day at South Street Seaport after walking from 42nd Street Port Authority over to 42nd Street Grand Central Terminal. Outside of Grand Central we saw this Lovely Lady Bagpiper. First time I’ve ever seen a woman Bagpiper so after donating a dollar to her cause she obliged me with a curtsy and two photos. Beautiful and talented young lady. In some of the photos you can see the Brooklyn Bridge. Stephen and I were able to take a tour of the Peking which is a ship built in Germany in 1911.

The Safety Net

And some of our safety nets need repair! Especially the ones for the developmentally disabled!

I don’t care what your nationality is, 150 feet up perched above a room full of strangers and moments from the stunt you’ve practiced for, correction, would have practiced for, if you weren’t busy making out with your trapeze partner earlier –pretty sure you’d want a safety net.  Mistakes happen, why risk your well-being?  If only so you avoid months watching your blooper on Instagram, while you recover in traction.

And make out with that orderly, you sly player.

Yet I hear debate in America of removing the “safety net,” (the metaphorical one; i.e. Medicare, unemployment, oxygen for the poor) and I’m perplexed.  Are you telling me this “safety net” needs a safety net?  I can’t stress this enough, our ancestors didn’t have safety nets, they went splat.  That’s why we built ’em. Like my father used to say, “ropes that cushion your decent don’t grow on trees!”

Nets are better than no nets.

It’s the definition of progress.  First you go splat.  Then…

Working Vacation

Woke up this morning with a terrible stomach ache. Thank goodness I’m on vacation otherwise I’d have to go to work sick. I think the stress of my current situation is finally getting to me.  Had plans to go out, walk around and explore but right now I need to be near the bathroom.  Will spend most of the day in bed. At least I can still make phone calls. At this point I’m really worried. I feel like this is going to be a long drawn out process.  Already I feel drained.  Plus I have another very difficult and sad decision to make concerning one of my cats.  Looks like he will have to be put down. But at least he won’t suffer anymore.  Seems like bad luck all around.  Oh well. Another thing to suck up and put on more fake smiles and phony laughter despite the fact my heart and soul are broken into pieces.

Rambling Through Central Park

Inspired by the book, Wanderlust : A History of Walking by Rebecca Solnit I decided to become a New York City Rambling Rosie and explore Central Park.

Inspired by the book, Wanderlust : A History of Walking by Rebecca Solnit I decided to explore some of Central  Parks nature trails known as the Ramble.  Today I was only able to cover a few sites  but when I go on vacation next week there will be more trails to discover!  I saw some of Shakespeare’s Garden, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (no performances), Belvedere Castle (My Favorite!!), you can climb up the stairs inside for some spectacular views, Turtle Pond, (No I did not see Turtle the first! [They must be hiding], a statue dedicated to the King of Poland, the famous Obelisk aka Cleopatra’s Needle, a statue of Hamilton, & Mr. Bubble Guy! All in all a fantastic day for Rambling!

The New York Historical Society was closed for the Labor Day Holiday however I have vacation coming up next week so I hope to return for a…
