Graceful Birds and Buildings

Whether it’s a person, a building, or an abstract shape, show us something that exists harmoniously with its surroundings.

After much ado over Donald Trump’s Cabinet selection, today he was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. The event must hold some kind of psychological association for me, for I found myself meditating upon “riches” and “power.”

Everyone knows that riches are great. They lead to power, which is fantastic! And then, power leads to corruption… Wait a minute.

Oh yes. Unfortunately, that’s the way it goes. Based on his knowledge of history, Lord Acton put it this way: “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Lord Acton

Long before Lord Acton, I imagine Jesus was thinking of the corrupting influence of wealth and power when He said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:25)

"It is harder for a rich man to enter Heaven than to go through the eye of a needle." ~ Jesus

In Jesus’ day, the “eye of the needle” referred to a…

Philippians 4:13

King James Version (KJV)

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Been watching videos on Manifestation. Manifesting your dreams, goals, desires, plans etc.. Listed some of them at the bottom of this post.

One must focus and apply oneself to the task in order to succeed. Tuning out distractions, negative thoughts and words helped me to pass my exam this morning and receive another License pertaining to my job giving me extra qualifications. I knew I had to pass this exam so I made up my mind to do so by studying the materials provided by my managers/supervisors. My Motivation was to pass and get my License! Mission Accomplished!!

Before I got my job transfer in November from the Main Building to the smaller museum where I now work I was visualizing myself working at the Museum Annex without even realizing that’s what I was doing. First time I put in the transfer paperwork I did not receive it. Did I get upset? No. Well maybe a little bit but I put that feeling/emotion behind me. I’m a Thinker. Always Thinking especially when I see something or some place I want my brain cells get into action planning. As my Dad used to say I’m extremely Stubborn!!

I used to work the Day Shift at the Museum so I spoke with the Manager in Charge of Transfers and volunteered to work at the Annex any time they needed security guards at that location. He kept me in mind and sent me over there many times.  Oh yes for those who are wondering I work for the same employer. Same Museum. Just in a different location. Museums have many functions, buildings, purposes and locations of which the general public is not aware.

By volunteering to work at the Annex I was able to get to know the guards and supervisors over there (well many I already knew because they used to work at the Main Building) plus familiarize myself with this new building. I got to know the layout of the building and operations at this location. Also as an employee I have a good work record. I am Never Late. Always early. Follow the directions of the supervisors and I stay out of trouble.

Fast forward to November 2016. Once again when the notice was posted on the Bulletin Board for Evening/Night Shift (4:30 pm to 12:30 am Midnight) position I put in for it and Voila this time I got it!! The Manager was so Glad I applied I thought he was gonna do a Happy Dance!!  This Manager smoothed the pathway for my transfer, getting a locker in the Ladies Locker Room, pay raise (you get a Night time differential when you work nights) and answered all my questions.

I enjoy working in the evenings. The evening and night watch supervisors are all great people to work for and I get along well with my co-workers. An added Bonus is I’m acquiring a New Security Skill Set. As I mentioned in the first paragraph I passed an exam for fire and safety issues. Now I have my License for this newly added Security skill.

Honoring My Design

Another thing to remember is to Honor Your Design. I heard this quote on YouTube video by a British Soul Brother who goes by the name of Infinite Waters. In my case I know I was not designed to be a singer or a dancer. I won’t be on America’s Got Talent or Dancing with the Stars. As my Grandfather used to say, “I can’t carry a tune in a bucket.”  As for dancing sometimes I have two left feet!! LOL! At times in the past I was a Member of the Rhythm- less Nation!!

Therefore I honor the skills, talents and gifts in the areas where I excel. I’m open to learning new skills but realize every human being has limits. I will not be chosen to be an Astronaut like John Glenn but there are things I’m good at and I work on getting better in those areas.

I have weaknesses but I’m not weak. As a friend of mine often says, “I Know how to handle my business.

A lot of Manifesting/Manifestation is making a decision. Choosing one path over another as in the case of me returning to school at age 36 to earn my B.A. in English from Marymount Manhattan College. MMC was founded as a private Catholic Women’s College but take students of all religions. I am Baptist. Also before I graduated they began to let in men so now the school is co-ed.

Mind you when I made the decision to get my Bachelor’s Degree life was not a bed of roses. My Dad had died May 1995 and in the midst of my going to school my mother passed away August 1998. Losing my mother was like losing a limb. A part of me was gone missing. However through grief and sorrow I persevered. In fact I made the Dean’s List in 1999 and graduate Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.6 May 2002 at age 42. It was a long hard road but the school work challenged and invigorated me. I applied myself and received excellent results. I did it for my parents who did not live to see me graduate and most of all I did it for me.

Know When to Hold’em

I Honored My Design. I am an English Major. Many asked me why did you choose English? Are you planning to be a teacher? The answer to the first question is because I knew I could pass English!! Throughout K-12 grades I was a poor Math student. Failed all my exams and classes. Got bad marks on my report cards. My parents often had to tutor me or I got tutoring assistance from First Grade until 12th grade so I could graduate High School. I do not have a mind for math plus I loathe numbers!! To this day after working close to 40 years I’ve never had a use in any of my various jobs including the Military for Algebra or Geometry. That was a wasted class in my case. Anyway what I’m trying to say is know your limitations. If you don’t like something that something is not your passion and you will not succeed no matter how hard you try. I know people whose parents paid for them to get a degree in Business. The person hated business and decided to become a Pre-School teacher. Last I heard she is much happier.

Know when to fold’em.

After I graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2002 I enrolled in an MLS (Masters Library Science) program at Queens College.  After a while I realized what I thought constituted being a librarian and my studies did not match up. I was having troubles in the classes, realized that I was wasting my time and left the program. Sometimes you gotta let go because that career path is not for you. I have no regrets.
