A Caring Christmas ~ Help a Hungry Neighbor

I don’t participate in Black Friday or any of these buying sprees but God gave me a way to challenge this mindset and help my neighbors at the same time. This morning as I was doing my laundry I was very upset to hear that the Police had to get involved because yet another customer was nearly trampled and beaten at Walmart in New Jersey over a Flat Screen TV!! Outrageous!! Also Walmart workers barely earn a living wage while the Founders live the lives of Kings, Queens, Princes & Emperors.
Earlier this Saturday I was shopping at one of my local grocery stores. As I got on the line there was an elderly woman in front of me carefully counting out her few dollars and change trying to pay for her groceries. She did not have enough money. Right then and there I decided to pay the difference. The clerk and the woman were in shock. My contribution was only $2 bucks but hopefully I made a positive difference in this senior’s life. She was grateful. As I turned to give her some extra change, she had disappeared. My heart is filled with joy being able to help a senior citizen in need. If you follow the news you know the budget for SNAP aka Food Stamps has been cut. This means the poor, disabled and elderly are getting less food stamps and going hungry. This should not be! I live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York, Brownsville/Bed-Stuy.
THIS IS MY CHALLENGE TO ALL WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE FOR THE NEXT 60 DAYS. PAY FOR AN ELDER’S OR DISABLED PERSON’S GROCERIES AT YOUR LOCAL STORE AND/OR PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE & PETS! THANK YOU.

In the spirit of spreading Love, Joy and Understanding I want to Nominate a Woman who embodies Faith, Love, Caring and Compassion, Ms. Catherine Townsend-Lyon for the Sisterhood of World Bloggers Award.

Occupy Until I Return — The 6% and the 99% Join Forces
Occupy Until I Return – Part Two
Occupy till I return. The word occupy here means not merely to possess, or to take up space as it often does in our language, but to improve, and in the instance of activism to use our talents, gifts and abilities to advance and expand the opportunities, rights, and freedoms for those who may not have a voice or are under oppression. As we Occupy we Redeem the only the time but people worldwide who are victims of tyranny and domination. Our efforts are instrumental in changing their lives from victims to Victory. So Jesus commands his disciples to improve their talents; to make the most of them; to increase their capability of doing good, and to do it until he comes to call us hence, by death, to meet him. See 1 Corinthians 12:7; Eph 4:7. (http://bible.cc/luke/19-13.htm)

Activism Progress Update: well latest news is that the major subject of debate in the NYS Assembly is the OPWDD 6% proposed cut. As I see it if they’re still debating then there is still a chance to restore the money for Stephen Palmer and all special needs people. Also I’m writing articles for Advocate’s Voice newsletter published by QCDD and I’m joining forces with Occupy Wall Street, Occupy the Hood and Occupy Together. I know I used to disparage the Occupy Movement but now I feel they are more organized and have better direction & focus. Plus I need my fellow Occupiers. We all need them. Let’s all safely and peacefully practice the principles of Civil Disobedience.

I do not believe in anarchy. My calling is to Occupy within the system. The current structure of government is not going to disappear, however we must make our elected officials accountable and hold them responsible. We must make our voices heard by going to City Council Meetings, Town Hall Meetings, engaging our New York State assemblymen in Albany, marching, protesting, rallying and boycotting. I still believe in the power of the vote and the power of the purse. They go hand in hand. Resistance but peaceful resistance.
God Calls Everyone but Some don’t answer. Many including those in the church look at Stephen as somebody who needs to be fixed but it’s not Stephen who has the problem it is the temporarily abled. By saying Stephen needs to be cured, fixed or healed imply that he is defective. No that insulting attitude needs to be fixed. That type of bigotry needs to be cast aside. No more warehousing of the developmentally disabled and people with special needs!! Defenders of the Faith need to defend “the least of these” — those who are vulnerable in our society, and that includes the disabled, children, our persecuted LGBT sisters and brothers, the elderly, abused women and Veterans. No more domestic violence or sexual abuse against women and girls. No more Willowbrooks, No more special needs/developmentally disabled kids/adults hidden away in attics or basements. No more brutal murders and suicides like Matthew Shepherd, Branden Teena & Tyler Clementi.
We who claim to follow Jesus and his principles must speak out and make a stand for justice, for what is right and honorable. We have the power to put an end to evil and injustice. Activism knows no age limitations or religious barriers. Look at the example of our young sister Malala Yousafzai who risked her life to get an education not just for herself but for all girls and young women in Pakistan. Those who are called can no longer hide inside their storefront churches or within mansion edifices. The world needs us now more than ever!

Ecclesiastes 9:11
King James Version (KJV)
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all.
The Time is now! The Doors are opening! Let’s us march onto Victory! The Battle is not over and Triumph is on the Way!!

Life in the ‘Hood’ — Ganja Granny
This is an old post from 2011 but I decided to update it with an appropriate Tyler Perry video.
Ganja Granny
Senior citizens are not what you think they should be. These old coots bring new meaning to “Puff Daddy.” I think some fossils went on LSD trips in the 1960s and never came back!
One Wednesday I was doing my laundry with several of my neighbors when one of the dizzier elders came in with her laundry. This woman is totally discombobulated. She couldn’t remember which washers she left her clothes in then she couldn’t decide which dryers in which to place her clothes.
During the course of this drama she lost her laundry card. We no longer use coins but cards similar to credit cards. She accused two young men who had just come in the laundry room of stealing the card while they were on the other side busily stuffing their clothes into two of the large machines totally oblivious to her. Of course she made no sense. Meanwhile she’s erratically helter-skelter looking for this damn card. The freaking card was on the floor.
Oh yes sometime during this travesty she joined into the conversation that I was having with my other two neighbor ladies to discuss the benefits of smoking marijuana. She proceeded to tell us how it opens up the arteries in the back of your retina. My neighbors and I gave each other knowing looks as we silently agreed that she had smoked way too much mary jane and in my head I speculated that maybe back in the 1960s she went on an LSD trip and never came back.
Most pot smokers are not that disoriented so I think that sister cut her weed with something else, however the munchies part worked very well as she appears to weigh about 300lbs!! I think she took those Cheech & Chong movies to heart!!

Now you know how those old folks in their 60s and 70s really pass all that free retirement time. Next time you get that contact high as you pass through the hallway in your building it’s the seniors not junior you need to be worried about.
“Pass the dutchie on the left hand side.”
Outrageous is the word for many of the older people in my apartment complex. There’s the lady who has regular chats with President Bush. Whether it’s Bush 1 or 2 I don’t know. She also claims to have dealings with the FBI & the CIA.
Several years ago there was the older gentleman who came down to the laundry room dressed in women’s clothing playing C&W music on his boom box. He was an alcoholic who crashed so many cars the development took away his parking space and finally he went off the deep end and his daughter came and got him. He has since passed away. Then there’s the elderly man dressed in the cowboy outfit with one pants leg rolled up talking about WWII, Obama and various other topics.
Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail – 2. “Self Medication”
Also there are the old “hot in the pants” geezers who constantly trying catch women my age or younger. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been approached by these Geritol junkies. Why an old man 75 or 80 is still thinking about getting laid when he can’t even get it up without Viagra is beyond me. Anyway I don’t want to see much less sleep with a man old enough to be my father!
Dear God please do not let me be nuts if I live to be in my 70s & 80s.
Here is a musical salute to all my 65+ neighbors!
