SHARE YOUR WORLD – 2016 WEEK 3

Hs6_mn6HWhat is your favorite piece of art? (it doesn’t have to be famous)

I work in a museum so it’s difficult to say which artwork is my favorite but I Love Paintings! Paintings tell a story even still lifes. A close second are sculptures.

However for the sake of choice here is a photo of a Kehinde Wiley painting from the Brooklyn Museum. As you can see my brother Stephen is imitating the pose. Yes I put him up to this! LOL!!

Which place do you recommend as a Must-See? Please state which country, state or providence.

My hometown New York City!! Also Brooklyn, New York, USA. Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Barclay’s Center (lots of sporting events)  You can see more Brooklyn and New York City sites on my Photography page Roaming Urban Gypsy.  www.roamingurbangypsy.com

Complete this sentence: When I was younger I used to….

be able to eat ice cream and drink sodas, laying down put my legs and feet behind my head and stay like that until my Mom told me to stop being a pretzel and come to dinner, party all night and still come to work on time the next day. Now I cannot do any of those things.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Went with my Japanese girlfriend to her Buddhist Temple which gives me peace, centers me and reminds me not to give into anger!  I try to attend on a regular basis and even became a member in 2012. Beliefs very similar to Christianity and the Bible. Thank you Shinnyo-en Buddhism!

Staying calm and making it through the work week!

The Artist’s Eye

Is there a painting or sculpture you’re drawn to? What does it say to you? Describe the experience. (Or, if art doesn’t speak to you, tell us why.)

The Brooklyn Museum where Art meets Activism! One of the best museums in New York!  What really draws me to the art at the Brooklyn Museum is that it is inclusive featuring art not just from Europeans but from Artists of Color. All voices are represented. When I go to the Brooklyn Museum I see my face, all faces, my culture, all cultures.  Please feel free to click on the links below to see some of the past exhibitions.

Good Times

Imagine that tomorrow, all of your duties and obligations evaporate for the day. You get the day all to yourself, to do anything you please. What types of fun activities would make your day?

If I had a Free day all to myself I’d spend it at as many New York museums as possible such as the Brooklyn museum or South Street Seaport. As my loyal readers already know I’m having a love affair with the Brooklyn museum. The exhibits are excellent. Going there is an experience I want to repeat constantly.  Yes it would be a museum day all day.

The last time I was at the South Street Seaport my brother Stephen and I had a great time exploring. Since it was early May 2012  the weather was overcast and dreary but we had a great time.  The Museums located in this are specialize in nautical fare and are fascinating and well worth repeat visits.  The year 2012 marked the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and there was a special exhibit dedicated to this anniversary. They had many mementos about the White Star Line and reproductions of costumes and clothing worn during that time period.

Inspiration & Muse

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Inspiration.”

One of my many and most favorite Inspirations/Muse is the Brooklyn Museum.

https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/

The Brooklyn Museum brings together Art and Activism featuring a wide range of artists from all communities, races and backgrounds. Historically, artists were the traditional allies of movements for social change. It is refreshing to see art depictions that not only look like me but were created by artists of African descent.

Their exhibits are not just entertainment but are educational and cause the viewer to stop and think thereby gaining a new perspective on the subject or theme. The featured artworks are my muse for my own creative outlets allowing me to see what narratives I can share with people.
