Congress on Your Corner – Saturday, August 12 with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries had a Meet & Greet Congress on Your Corner – today in front of the Shirley Chisholm Post Office this morning. I made sure that I got up early and I was the 3rd person on the line. I voiced my concerns about the swarms of rats that greet me every night at the Broadway Junction subway station.  I work nights so I get off work at 12:30 and usually get to my Brooklyn Broadway Junction stop around 1:30 am. There are literally hordes of rats. Big ones. Larger than my cat Sylvester.

I also asked him about low cost housing for Veterans. I came prepared with my DD 214 Discharge papers. Rent is eating up my budget and I can barely pay my other bills. I explained to Congressman Jeffries that I apply for City Housing on NYC website but since it is a lottery I almost never get called or I get rejected. He informed me that there is another way I can get Veterans housing. His staff took down all my information and his staff will get back to me.

I also explained to him that any housing would need to be cat friendly and that in my case my Cat Sylvester is my therapy cat. Those of you Ladies who have served in the military know the issues that confront women and you don’t always come out the way you went in. That can be said of any male dominated job field. I have Life Long emotional and psychological issues. Therefore I need a therapy pet. Either cat or dog. Sylvester gives stability to my life and helps me cope with my various struggles.

For every American who tells me Thank you for My Service I wonder if they ever try to help any of the Veterans in their city.  Keep in mind that many Homeless People are Veterans.  I know what it is to get evicted. And just as you pass by, cringe and judge the homeless people on your city streets and subways well one of those could have been me. Instead of verbal Thanks it would be more profitable to volunteer to help Homeless/Disabled Veterans, speak to your Congressperson about increasing Veterans services and programs or at least attempt to inform yourself on the issues and problems confronting Veterans especially Female Veterans. Other than that Keep your Thanks. That does not help us.  I cannot eat, live in or pay bills with empty Thanks.

Congressman Jeffries is a man of his word and he has helped me in the past concerning my brother Stephen. Those of you who have been following my blog know what I went through with my job not allowing me time off to see my brother Stephen.
He actually cares about the community.  He listened to me. He alerted me to various programs that I did not know existed. Hakeem Jeffries is a good man.

I’m a firm believer in Citizen participation. I could sit here and bemoan my problems or I can do something about them. Nobody is going to do it for me. It’s up to me to change my life. I’m approaching retirement and I do have several health challenges so I’ve got to find solutions now and not wait until a crisis. Being Proactive is the way to go.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: VISION

https://bopaula.wordpress.com/2017/06/22/thursdays-special-vision/

Proverbs 29:18

King James Version (KJV)

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Bible Scripture Verse the Lord gave me way back in the mid-1980s concerning my writing.

Habakkuk 2:2-3

King James Version (KJV)

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Crappy Commute

I’m enjoying my new job position with new duties/responsibilities and opportunities to gain my security skills however my night-time homeward bound commute is fast becoming a new level in Dante’s Inferno!!

Mayor Bill de Blasio!! You are about to be a one-term Mayor because the subway trains are filled with the mentally ill homeless. Homelessness is New York City’s #1 problem with the MTA’s poor service a close 2nd. Coming from 77th Street in Manhattan going to Broadway Junction in Brooklyn should not take more than 45 minutes at any time of the day or night. Traveling from Manhattan to Brooklyn should never be an hour and a half trip. Speed up the service. Increase the frequency of the trains. Put Transit Police on all the subway trains! Most of all Please house and provide services/programs these poor unfortunates who have no other choice in this bitter cold weather than to camp out in the trains!!!

Tales from the Gross Side

I’m also tired of riding the Vomitus Express. I don’t know whether it is just the holiday season, people riding the trains have addiction problems or they are all three sheets to the wind but every night no matter whether I get on the first or middle cars somebody has decided to live in Barf City. To My Fellow NYers if you can’t hold your liquor please STOP Drinking and/or getting high riding the subways!! The rest of us are tired of stepping over and trying to avoid upchuck land!!  Last week on the A train this guy was covered Barf. He did not move so I don’t know if he was just passed out or dead. Either way I let the Transit people deal with the mess. Here’s an idea for two new dolls for the holiday season: UpChucky and Toss My Cookies Tillie!!

Lucky for me I’m not squeamish. Over the years as a Museum Security Officer I’ve seen some of the visiting public/tourists do every body function known to mankind in a public space. Museums are located in rich wealthy neighborhoods so the bulk of the visitors are well heeled but not well-behaved.  The Upper-Crust of society can no more control the lower body functions than their brains or tongue. Trust fund babies in every sense of the word.  At least the poor mentally disturbed people riding the trains have an excuse. They are sick, have multiple disabilities, homeless, hungry and nobody to help them. I still wonder what is the excuse of people who have more money than God!!

On that note I can truly say that other than having to ride the crazy subway at night I Love and truly enjoy working the Late shift. I’ve found a camaraderie in this new building that I have not had in the previous eight years. I’m extremely happy to work in such a wonderful environment.

I have more subway adventures that I will share in my persona of the Raunchy Rambler. The next train tale will be the Hapless Hermaphrodite!! Stay Tuned!!
