Inspiration for all poets but especially Black Women Poets!
indeed
Thank you for sharing this, in Canada, the selection for American Poet Laureate doesn’t make headlines news. After your post, I read a few of her poems, and saw a few video of her reading her poems. I don’t mean this to sound – well, I don’t know how it will sound, but the Black experience in Canada is quite different than the African American experience in the States, and I think the voice of an empowered African American woman is so powerful – it can capture adversity, courage and resiliency along with nurturing and caring. Tracy K. Smith to me embodies, all of that, and all of the power that the written word can contain.
Thanks for the inspiration and the reassurance that ALL is not wrong in the US of A.
Hugs, Harlon
Thanks Harlon! Always glad to hear from you. I think that the Black Experience is different across the diaspora but with common elements. This weekend I must delve into her poetry. ❤
One day that will be me..
Yes it will. I believe that there was a previous African American Woman named Rita Dove who also held this honor a few years ago. You are in good company.
Thanks…. I’m praying one day to be there with the top of the top…
Keep writing and praying. God answers prayer. Also attending poetry slams will help get your name out there.
