On a vacation what you would require in any place that you sleep?

A Clean Queen Size bed that is firm for my bad back. Pillows. Lots of them. The reason I added the word clean is that you’d be surprised at how many hotels/motels do not wash or change the sheets and comforters after guests leave!

What is your greatest extravagance?

Not a whole lot as I live paycheck to paycheck but getting a pedicure which is needed since my job requires standing and walking. My feet hurt after a long day at work. I would add my Vitamin treatments which I can’t really afford anymore. Those Vitamin infusions really helped me and I wish I had the money to invest in myself. A badly needed physical however the co-pay has gone up beyond my resources. Unfortunately Self-care has become an extravagance which I can barely afford so I tend to neglect my well-being. I’ve learned to ignore pain, push through it and keep it moving.

Spending more time with my brother Stephen. If I had my ‘Druthers’ as the comic Lil Abner used to say I’d spend more time with Stephen. It is not fun having to work weekends and holidays and I feel guilty for all the holidays I’ve missed spending with Stephen. That’s one reason I don’t look forward to those year end holidays because I know I’ll be at work. In the last nine years maybe I’ve spent perhaps 1 at the most 2 Christmas with Stephen. I’m not big on Christmas but it does mean something to him so I wish that I could be with Stephen on those “Family Holidays.”  Maybe once I turned 62 and my life turns around those future dreams might come true. However those dreams are years away so I deal with the here and now.  I am grateful and Thankful to have a job but you give up all your family and Me time just to survive and make ends meet.

Would you want $200,000 right now or $250,000 in a year? It’s safe to assume all money is tax free.

$200,000 right now! As we all know Tomorrow is not promised to you. I might not be alive a year from now so I want all my money Now! I really need that money for my healthcare which has gone by the wayside. Plus think of all the fun stuff and good times that Stephen and I could have if I had $200,000!!

Is it more important to love or be loved?

Both

List things that represent abundance to you.

Health. Once you start to lose your health you begin to lose everything.  Truly I wish I had my 20 year old body but with my 58 year old mature mind. I miss out on so many events because of chronic pain, stomach issues, and all the other health challenges that come with aging. I’d give almost anything to go back to the healthy functioning body I had as a young woman.

Spending time with my brother Stephen.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Jeremiah 29:11

New International Version (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Arts Programs for Adults with Autism

One of my Future Dreams and Goals is to create more Nature Trail/Town Talks featuring me and my Awesome Autism brother Stephen. My brother Stephen inspires and uplifts me plus Stephen enjoys being out in Mother Nature as much if not more than I do. Hopefully one day I would Love to create some sort of Arts program for Adults with Autism especially since government cutbacks and lack of funding have eliminated the art programs at Stephen’s Day Treatment Center/School. Last month Stephen and I (mostly Stephen) created a magnificent photo/picture collage. It was outstanding and I hope to enter the collage in a local arts program/museum. My feeling is that developmentally disabled adults have a lot to give, share and are extremely creative and talented if given the opportunity. I’ve even been trying to encourage my friends who are art teachers and their fellow educators to volunteer time to AABR for the clients/consumers who attend daily.

Here is the video.

Here is where I sing the song the “Impossible Dream” from Man of LaMancha.”  When I was in the 3rd and 4th grades we used to sing this song during Wednesday morning Assembly. That was back in the 1960s and most art and music programs have also been eliminated from NYC public schools also. This is a sad trend. As Americans we need to invest more in our public schools and in programs and services for Developmentally Disabled Adults.

Hopefully I will be able to convince some museums, art galleries/studios, Private Art Programs to provide funding. I will let you know if I accomplish this goal.

I Like the Frank Sinatra version better because he is a much better singer. Plus I am a Frank Sinatra Fan.

This is a modified form of the request that I sent to my friends, family and Museum Co-workers on Facebook.  Since this mostly applies to the State and City of New York it makes sense for me to share it on Facebook to get the best outreach possible.

As most of you already know I have a brother Stephen who has Autism. Sadly the State government has cut funding to Arts programs at his Day Treatment Center AABR located in Jamaica, Queens. With cutbacks the arts program along with the Art teacher were eliminated.

I am asking those of you who are Art Teachers/Art Instructors if you can Please donate/volunteer some of your time to work with Developmentally Disabled Adults at AABR located at Wellington Hall 161-06 89th Avenue, Jamaica, Queens, NY 11432. Phone number is 718-262-9200. Contact person is Michele Danowitz.

March 2013

Here you can see Stephen and I in Albany, New York back in March 2013. Albany is the New York State capital. Seat of New York State Government! Heads of agencies, clients/consumers and their families made the bus ride up to Albany on a very rainy day!

That day we made a stand. Every time a legislator/representative would come out our representative made our presence know. No we did not get to meet with Gov. Cuomo that day but there is strength in numbers. We could not be ignored!!

The Young Man in the red coat read a heart rending letter he had written pleading with the legislators not to cut the budget. He said he wanted to be useful. He wanted to work. He did not want to sit in front of a TV all day! The lady in blue was so taken with his letter she made copies and to it back to the other legislators in Albany.

Protesting, Marching and Demonstrating March 2013 in front of Governor Cuomo’s New York City office!!  1500 Strong!  We are the 6%!

Me at the Paid Family Leave Rally January 2016!!  I carried a photo of Stephen in my pocket to give me strength. I was personally invited to attend the rally by the Governor’s Office. Speakers included Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Vice President Joe Biden both lost relatives to cancer in 2015.  Gov. Cuomo read the New York Times article about Stephen and me.

Result: New York State will have Paid Family Leave starting Jan. 2018!!  Apathy does nothing. We must engage with our government.

Action gets results! Faith Without Works is dead!

James 2:14-26

New King James Version (NKJV)

Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b]works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[c] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[d] And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
