Share Your World – July 31, 2017

share-your-world-syw

Good morning everyone.  I thought I would switch things up a bit on Share Your World.  I will still be asking four questions, but the fourth question will be the same each week.  The last question will be about anything that inspires you.

If you had to have your vision corrected would you rather: glasses or contacts? Or what do you use if you need to have your vision corrected?

I wear Glasses. I tried contact lenses years ago and I never could get used to them. They irritate my eyeballs. I guess I don’t like having anything actually on my eyes. Plus one has to be all the cleaning solutions needed for contact lens.  Too much work. Glasses are ready to wear without preparation.

Are you more of a dog person or a cat person?

I grew up with dogs because we lived in a house but since I’ve lived in smaller spaces where I cannot keep a dog I’ve had cats for around 30 years.  I think that both dogs and cats are wonderful.

If you were to buy a new house/apartment what is the top three items on your wish list?

One level. No stairs or steps.  Safe, clean with amenities neighborhood. Near transportation ie buses and subways since I don’t drive.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I am a broken, scarred, battered Vessel but God has seen fit to use me in the battle for Civil Rights, Autism Rights which are all Human Rights.  Despite my personal health and emotional battles I’m right there in Stephen’s corner always and forever.

With Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on our side Stephen and I are Autism Activists Advocates. We are Transformers!  We are Autism Warriors! Without Jesus and Stephen who both give me the strength, courage and fortitude to keep moving forward, well I could not but them both of them I Can.

Praise God for the Best Brother in the Whole Entire World Stephen Vincent Palmer! ❤   ❤

Isaiah 54:17

New King James Version (NKJV)

17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

List some of your favorites types of teas.

Green tea. Yerba Mate. Moroccan Mint Tea.

If you had to describe your day as a traffic sign, what would it be?

A Work day is Slow or Yield.  A traffic sign that describes my life is Detour.

What are a couple of things could people do for you on a really bad day that would really help you?

Buy me lunch or dinner!! Take me to a Beauty/Health Spa. A trip to the beach.

Irregardless of your physical fitness, coordination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do do?   Remember this is SYW, dreaming is always allowed.

I would be like my fictional character and alter ego the Nubian Ninja! I do admire Venus and Serena Williams.  Also Misty Copeland.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Always Glad for weekends. Those two days I have a little Me-time. Work days are devoted to my job. I was supposed to go out Friday but due to the extreme heat I elected to stay near home. I did go outside in the backyard. I look forward to next weekend, vacation in August and retiring next year. Basically when you work full-time you spend most of your time commuting to and from work. Then when you’re off you still have to do laundry, clean house and grocery shopping. You exchange on job for another. Then back to sleep. I’m so exhausted by the time the weekend comes so I usually wind up cancelling any plans I made to go somewhere. I made that one exception for Curlfest.  It always astonishes me that people have energy to travel engage in hobbies. I’m preparing an art project and only force of will power will help me get it done even though it is something I want to do.

What is your favorite cheese?

I suppose Cheddar or American Cheese. I enjoy a great many types of cheese but as it contains high amounts of salt I must limit my intake. Bad for those of us with high blood pressure.

Are you left or right handed?

I am right handed. Stephen is left handed.

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

Both. I exercise my mind by watching educational videos on YouTube, reading and of course since I work in a museum viewing artworks on a daily basis.  Thanks to the NYC MTA and the poor bus and subway service I have the opportunity several times a week for unscheduled exercise after being let off the subway train 10+ blocks away from my intended destination.

Complete this sentence: Hot days are …THE BEST!!!! I LOVE Hot Weather. My skin, hair, nails and mood improve and brighten up. My hair grows faster and my skin does not suffer from those horrible winter rashes.  Summer is my Favorite Season!! I get more done and can spend more time outside in hot weather as opposed to cold weather.  Also I can wear my lovely summer dresses!

As long as the temps don’t go over 90 degrees.  100 degrees is not only uncomfortable but dangerous. I drink lots of water. Give me 70 and 85 degree days all year long! They are the best.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Making phone calls to my various elected officials to alert them to vote against trumpcare, keep Medicaid and improve services and programs for adults with Autism. By calling my various Congresspersons, Senators, Reps I hope to get funding restored for the programs and services eliminated due to budget cuts. Always wearing my Autism Advocate hat.  I am an Autism Activist!!

Also I had lots of fun at Curlfest on Sunday. Even though it was a really hot day in the park I spent lots of time dancing and having fun!

Looking forward to my vacation in August.

CELEBRATE SUMMER!!!

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Inside. Rain is bad for my arthritis. Creates more pain. If it rains on a work day or if I have a meeting to attend then I just grin and bare the pain and pass out when I get home. Joint pain is no fun so rain is not my friend.

List at least five favorite treats. (They do not have to be sugary).

Plantain chips

Blueberry muffins

Egg and American cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel

Italian ices

Yogurt

Where’s your favorite place to take out-of-town guests?

I never have out of town guests but I remember when I was a young girl and my family from Ohio came to New York either my Dad or myself would take them to the famous New York sites. Empire State building and all those touristy places I don’t like. I suppose if someone were to visit me and I had the vacation time to spend with them we’d be going to all the New York Museums which I can get in for Free since I am employed by a NY Museum.

You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?

That’s something I don’t even want to entertain since it has happened on my job. Not to me but to my co-workers. I have a fear of enclosed places with no escape which is bad because one of my duties when there is a special exhibition opening is to operate the elevator. I know my bosses can see me pacing back and forth inside the elevator. Scary. Ugh. This scenario is a Trigger for my nerves. Reminds me of when I was trapped underground in the subway for over an hour last Jan when the train hit a guy on the tracks. Suicide victim. Horrible.

Given that I have high blood pressure, anxiety and panic attacks I’d pick Jesus because only Jesus could get the elevators to work or take me to Heaven in case I have a heart attack or stroke.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I got to see Stephen. I had planned for a relaxing three 3 day weekend but that did not happen.  The only good part was attending Stephen’s meeting and seeing him. The news about all the layoffs and cutbacks due to lack of funding was depressing. Less and less services and programs for Stephen and the other residents.

The art program has been completely cut.  Stephen enjoys art and making drawings, ceramics, etc….  He is no longer going out to as many work-sites because New York State has not provided funding to pay staff to take him to his job sites.  Stephen used to attend a special camp for Adults with Autism but that got cut also. So you see my 3 days off was not relaxing in the least bit.

Developmentally Disabled citizens are being kicked to the curb because our American government no longer cares. Many professionals and family members are worried that this is a return to the warehousing of developmentally disabled people that was the norm in the 50s, 60s & 70s.  Those of you old enough will remember Willowbrook and the scandal that reporter Geraldo Rivero exposed at that house of horrors.

I wish I was rich and wealthy so I could donate money to hire more staff and return the arts, camps, work-site/work readiness programs that make the lives those with developmental disabilities fulfilling.

What goal are you working on now? Your goal can be something fun or extremely serious.  Have fun with this question.

Retirement. Preparing by increasing my contribution to the 403B Saving Plan.

What is one thing you’re glad you tried but would never do again?

The Cyclone which is a famous Roller-coaster located in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY.  It turned 90 earlier this month. For me Roller Coasters are Barf Machines!

The only Cyclones that I wish to engage in the future are the Brooklyn Cyclones Baseball Team!!    http://www.brooklyncyclones.com/virtual/

Did you choose your profession or did it choose you?

The job I have now choose me but I believe I was placed there for a reason. Of course nobody goes to college to become a Museum Security Guard but in the 9 years I’ve worked at the Museum I’ve developed a deeper appreciation for art in all its various forms and genres.  Many of my colleagues are artists, musicians, writers, playwrights, photographers, sculptures and painters. To be surrounded by so many creative people is a Blessing and a Catalyst for me to move forward with my gifts and talents.

Have you ever gotten lost?

Yes plenty of times. Both driving and getting off on the wrong subway stop! When I used to drive it was well known among my friends that I was “Wrong Way Corrigan!”  I have not driven since 2008 so my experiences are before GPS.  As for the subway mishaps that occurred from falling asleep and missing my stop. Much to my consternation and frustration I wound up having to cross over to the opposite platform and take the train back to My stop.

Douglas Corrigan was an American aviator born in Galveston, Texas. He was nicknamed “Wrong Way” in 1938

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Lately especially for the last two weeks I feel like my life has been various chapters of the popular children’s book series  Lemony Snicket,  A Series of Unfortunate Events.  My eyeglasses broke two weeks ago and as of yet I have not had the funds to replace them. So I’ve been walking around without glasses. So far I can still see well enough to get around my neighborhood and off to work. I will try to get my glasses fixed tomorrow when I go see my brother Stephen. New glasses will cost at least $500 which I Do Not have.

The IRS sent me one of their Lovely Missives stating that I owe New York State around $400.  They will take their money. For those outside the USA the IRS can level a garnishment against your paycheck which means they can just go into your bank account and take the money.  Same thing if you own Student Loans. Basically the government can take the money out of your bank account without your permission.

I must bite the bullet and work Extra Overtime to get them off my back. July 4th will be good for me as the Museum will be open, I will be working and it’s a Double Day. Lord knows I need the extra money.

I can only do like the Rosita song in Sing and Shake it Off!

I do look forward to seeing my brother Stephen both tomorrow and July 7th. These are his progress report meetings plus some fun activities.

It has been a Great Week for photography most of which I feature on my Photography Blog Roaming Urban Gypsy.
