Share Your World – March 5, 2018

What did you or did not like about the first place you lived without your parents?

The Army Barracks at Ft. Jackson, SC.  Those buildings looked like they were left over from World War II.  Can’t say I either liked or didn’t like them.  It was the place I did Basic Training and AIT.  It was my first time being away from my parents from any length of time and I was excited, scared and happy all at the same time. Heck I was a teenager.  I suppose you could compare it to a college dorm.  You make friends and you deal with some women as the we used to say back in the day, Weren’t wrapped too tight.”

What is your most favorite smell/scent?

Food in general

Flowers specifically Roses.  My mother’s favorite flower and mine.

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

I hate snow and I hate winter.  There is nothing fun or romantic about ice and snow unless you like falling and injuring yourself. Snow is nasty, messy, cold freezing punishment that gets more and more difficult to navigate the older I get.

Also since January a whole hank of my hair has come out from my scalp thanks to winter rashes and infections.  My skin cracks, peels, and my entire body feels like someone threw acid on me and lit me on fire. I’ve had to stopped taking selfies because my hair is coming out.

Plus I don’t see well and have balance issues so snow is just an opportunity for me to slip and fall. Subway stairs with ice and snow are an invitation to cracking my head wide open. I wish that I lived in Hawaii.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Some canvasses I’ve been working on.  Right now I’m calling them the Starry Night Constellations series.  Darkness is something I can relate to for good and for bad. My emotions have been all over the place and as always I’m forever on an emotional roller-coaster.

I work at night so I darkness is normal for me.  I both Love Darkness and Fear what lies in wait for me. Midnight is my reality I have had chronic insomnia for years so even when I worked days I was often up all night, in many ways Darkness is my friend from inside to outside. Fog, Mist, Darkness and Silence are concepts that are an integral part of my being.  Being a Loner and Solitary I do enjoy the Silence of the Night.  One of my goals is to go or be somewhere that I don’t have to interact with people.

Art is Signed, Sealed Delivered

Artwork is Signed, Sealed & Delivered

Well I managed to get myself and my artwork to the gallery space all in one piece. I was confused when I got off the train because I am not familiar with 96th but after a few frantic calls to my co-worker and her coming outside to wave me in, I made it. (Night Blindness ~~ Ugh! No fun!)

That’s why I always afraid to go to a place I don’t know well after dark because I always wind up calling and asking for help. Luckily my friends and co-workers put up with me. Now that I know where the place is I will be volunteering for whatever needs doing. I enjoy being as active as possible.

The Art Space which used to be a school kind of looks like a Castle from the outside. Lots of room, bright and beautiful. Now it is an Artist Residence and one of the security guards who is coordinating the Union Art Show lives there. She was able to get the space. Wish I could live there. I’d be closer to work and the entire building is devoted to artists and art exhibits. An Artist gets in through a Lottery. While I was there gabbing it up with my buddies we could see the ongoing show which is an exhibit by and about Veterans. Somehow I managed to miss all these wonderful art exhibit opportunities.

Here are a few interesting items I managed to photograph before my friends and I had to walk back to the subway station.

By the Way I Love Stevie Wonder ever since his first hit song “Fingertips” and another blogger hipped me to the Douglas Adams quotes. Not really familiar with Douglas Adams but the quotes are funny!
