Indian Summer ~~ Warm Weather Love

My Favorite Season is Summer. I can wear my skirts and dresses. I prefer light clothing and I can still show some skin within reason naturally. My hair grows faster in the summer and my skin is soft, smooth and supple. I’m enjoying this Indian Summer. Temps in the 60s & 70s. I feel great and I can still get outside and enjoy the weather on my days off. Last Saturday I was able to take a long walk through a local historic cemetery. (See the photos on my Photography Blog Roaming Urban Gypsy)

Spring, Summer and Autumn still provide the chance to enjoy nature especially flowers, trees, and greenery. New York City’s Parks and Botanic Gardens are an Oasis of green in the concrete jungle.

Summer and Autumn weather in New York is glorious. I love seeing people getting outside and enjoying everything New York has to offer.  This weather offers great opportunities to have fun and get in some exercise.

Winter is my nemesis. I’m allergic to wool. All my skin allergies act up in the winter. My skin actually peels off. Yes I can pull pieces of skin off my arms and legs. The itching is severe. The pain is awful. It feels like thousands of small needles are constantly sticking me 24/7.  Cold weather Torture.

Before I can leave the house I must slather on all type of oils, Shea Butter and lotions. Unless I apply Coconut Oil, Jojoba and Shea butter to my hair it will break off. Usually I cut my hair in the winter because otherwise it will in some cases either fall out or break off. Then their is my arthritis. Cold weather has caused my joints to lock up to the point where I can barely get out of bed and in worse case scenarios I miss work. And locked joints are extremely painful. Not a good experience.

Snow. Ice. Blizzards. Snowstorms. Neighbors, business & churches who refuse to shovel the snow or put down de-icer. Over the years several of my co-workers have fallen on the ice, been in horrible car accidents which force them to be out of work for months, broken bones to the point that one woman can no longer lift her arms above her head. So many have sustained injuries from falling on ice and snow that will never properly heal.

Below are photos from previous winters. Sometimes the snowstorms get so bad that the Mayor and Governor shut down all transportation.

Because of the nature of my job I along with everyone in Security and Custodial are expected to come to work no matter what type weather or natural disaster. Earlier this year I got docked one day because I could not get out of my house. My landlord did not shovel and my room-mate and I were trapped inside the house. You know I had to work overtime to make up that missing money.

So I don’t see why people get excited about winter or cold weather in general. Why would you want to fall on a patch of black ice and break your arms? Strange.

If I could drive I would retire to a warmer climate.  However once I do retire the good thing is that I will no longer have to navigate through snowstorms, ice storms and freezing temps.  Once I am able to retire I will just stay inside my house and hibernate.

No cold weather!

Let Indian Summer and Warm Weather continue!!

What is your favorite cheese?

I suppose Cheddar or American Cheese. I enjoy a great many types of cheese but as it contains high amounts of salt I must limit my intake. Bad for those of us with high blood pressure.

Are you left or right handed?

I am right handed. Stephen is left handed.

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

Both. I exercise my mind by watching educational videos on YouTube, reading and of course since I work in a museum viewing artworks on a daily basis.  Thanks to the NYC MTA and the poor bus and subway service I have the opportunity several times a week for unscheduled exercise after being let off the subway train 10+ blocks away from my intended destination.

Complete this sentence: Hot days are …THE BEST!!!! I LOVE Hot Weather. My skin, hair, nails and mood improve and brighten up. My hair grows faster and my skin does not suffer from those horrible winter rashes.  Summer is my Favorite Season!! I get more done and can spend more time outside in hot weather as opposed to cold weather.  Also I can wear my lovely summer dresses!

As long as the temps don’t go over 90 degrees.  100 degrees is not only uncomfortable but dangerous. I drink lots of water. Give me 70 and 85 degree days all year long! They are the best.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Making phone calls to my various elected officials to alert them to vote against trumpcare, keep Medicaid and improve services and programs for adults with Autism. By calling my various Congresspersons, Senators, Reps I hope to get funding restored for the programs and services eliminated due to budget cuts. Always wearing my Autism Advocate hat.  I am an Autism Activist!!

Also I had lots of fun at Curlfest on Sunday. Even though it was a really hot day in the park I spent lots of time dancing and having fun!

Looking forward to my vacation in August.

CELEBRATE SUMMER!!!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 New King James Version (NKJV)

Everything Has Its Time

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born,
    And a time to die;
A time to plant,
    And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
    And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
    And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
    And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
    And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
    And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
    And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain,
    And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
    And a time to throw away;
A time to tear,
    And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
    And a time to speak;
A time to love,
    And a time to hate;
A time of war,
    And a time of peace.

With Every Season Turn, Turn, Turn

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Turn, Turn, Turn.”

Seasons change so quickly! Which one do you most look forward to? Which is your least favorite?

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – Summertime

My Favorite Season is Summer! I Love Heat, Sunshine, Warmth. Must be my African blood. I wish New York’s climate was more like California, Hawaii or Florida. Summer gives me the opportunity to wear dresses and skirts.  I tend to get out more because the weather is good during the summer.  Going to the park, the beach, just being able to soak in the sun’s rays is my ideal dream.  I Love seeing the trees and flowers in bloom, walking through the grass and enjoying nature.

My least favorite season is winter. I HATE cold, ice, snow, & freezing temps. Ugh!!  Housebound. Hibernating (NOT!!)  Traveling in snow and ice is dangerous. Fear of falling and breaking my limbs. Transportation can be iffy and who wants to stand outside in the snow, sleet and/or ice waiting for a bus or train?!  Yuck!!  Having to spend 20 minutes putting on 5 layers of clothing is not sexy!!  Neither is not seeing that black ice hiding under the snow and taking a tumble. Nor is getting unwanted exercise shoveling snow and putting down deicer just so you can get out of the house!  Also cold frozen winter temps are really bad for my arthritis. Painful locked joints are no fun.

So give this hot blooded woman a sunshiny 85 degree day 24/7/365!!
