Merry Christmas!!!

For only the second time in the last seven years I will finally have the opportunity to spend Christmas Day with my brother Stephen. Because of the nature of my job as a Security Officer it is very difficult for me to get time off or due to financial needs I work Christmas Day but this year Stephen and I will be together. Those of you who work for Transit Authority, hospitals, the Police or Fire Departments know that in order to keep New York City running a chosen few must sacrifice Holiday and Family time.  This is the city that never sleeps.

I overheard this saying yesterday from a tour group guide who pointed out that President Thomas Jefferson unbeknownst to him had indirectly predicted and referred to those demons of unchecked spending known as Credit Cards.  Financial upheaval caused by the Recession has removed all credit cards from my life. I now buy everything in cash. If I don’t have the money I don’t buy it.  If you can’t afford it Don’t buy it!! More than likely you can live without whatever shiny baubles have taken your fancy.  Fortunately the only person I buy for is my brother Stephen.

This includes Christmas also. No trees, wreaths, decorations, or cards. The decorations my parents had I put in the garbage after they died. I have to admit even though my parents passed away nearly twenty years ago I still mourn their loss at Christmas time so I don’t really get deep into celebration like other people.  I don’t bake or cook for the Holidays either. With my long crazy work hours I have little time for myself and what free time I do have I spend sleeping, reading, walking, taking photos or creating my blogs. Over the years I’ve become a more practical reasonable person. I’m happy to say I live a simple life.

I’m not a Scrooge and I do attend both the company and department Holiday parties but that’s it for me. In my opinion Christmas is really for children and I never married so no kids except my two furbabies and the Holidays don’t mean much to them. When my younger cousins were little kids I did buy gifts for them and I marveled at their enthusiasm.  Now they are all adults in their 20s.

There are certain aspects of Christmas I enjoy like the Holiday decorations at many of the department stores, the Christmas marts set up for the Holidays and Christmas carols.

At the time of their passing I had a one bedroom apartment and had no room now my living space is even smaller so I’d have to place to either display or store any Christmas stuff. To tell the truth I don’t miss it. Less holiday preparation. Over the years my priorities have changed.  Also as a Christian we are supposed to be celebrating the birth of Jesus not purchasing our way into debt for the coming New Year.

Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!!  Happy Holidays!!

Now onto New Year’s Day!!  Looking forward to 2016!!
